Man Crushed under Car

A good cheap backup for jack stands would be nailing a few pieces of 2x6 together until you get enough height that if the car drops off the stands it won't crush you. It's light, stable and stackable as long as you make the cuts long enough.

I glued (PL Premium Plus) and screwed (#8- 2 1/2 deck screws) cut off 2x12 stacked lumber to appropriate height for secondary back up. Put drawer handles on for easy carry. Working under car on back gives willies, one of half dozen reasons my hot rod fantasies shall remain fantasies. Will never shake Dennis Gages' hand.

Statistics? I can go and take a photo of that crushed ramp, because it is still in my relative's garage. I am using Rhyno ramps too, but I always put something under the car in case they fail.

One incident doesn't represent any type of trend. It could be an isolated case. Perhaps the ramp was damaged? Perhaps it had been over loaded at some point which lead to your failure?

I dont see how a ramp in good condition is any less safe than a jack stand.

There is nothing pretty about pulling a guy from underneath his own car after jacks / jack stands have failed.

I still have issues with getting under a car when its on a 4 post hoist. Always think its going to fall off or something lol ..

I have ramps that are made of recycled rubber. About 50lbs & I don't see my car crushing those. The only way an accident can happen is if the wheels slipped off

Those are the same ones I use :) For sure can't see the car slipping off those! Getting a FWD car up on them with wet tires is fun :)

Whatever floats your boat. Like I said, I wouldn't use ramps without extra safety support.
