Make a difference this Christmas

@TK , you hit the nail on the head . In some form almost all charities are good . The ones that don’t support massive “management “ overheads are generally my favourite.
Sally Ann is very well coordinated. We support LightHouse mission and a hospice called Ian Anderson house . I’m directing what funds I have this season to charity close to home .

I do sick kids and I do a couple of secret Santa gift packs to seniors in LTC with no family.

The wife handles the official charity giving... knight's table, sick kids, Sally Ann women/children shelter, etc..
I do "direct" donating... give out groceries, clothes, equipment, etc.. to homeless people.. things like that.

I usually do the new "tap to donate" thing on the Salvation Army kettles now since I rarely carry much in the way of cash anymore. However, despite seeing some kettle locations in my neck of the woods this year, I have yet to find one with anyone actually there collecting, just the empty kettle hanger.

Perhaps SA is having troubles finding volunteers this year?

Local SPCA & Make-A-Wish Canada aka Children's wish get the bulk of my donations through the year, plus whatever orgs friends do events for. Tap @ least 1 Sally Ann "kettle"

I woke up feeling happy today, bought a few $10 Tim’s cards, and handed out a garbage bag full of new mitts, hats and socks thst were accumulating around the house. Dropped them on a some street folks downtown.

Gonna try to off a couple of mink coats and my collection of vintage fur hats next weekend.

I feel sad the PETA and woke people almost ruined the fur industry with no knowledge of how the animals processed become Zoo food , and they don’t like Zoos either , but there are rescue zoos where animals that wouldn’t survive in the wild get rehomed and they get fed with product that often comes from “ oh so bad” sources . I give small donations to the Prescott Zoo , it’s one of those . Sash the bear , a thirty yr old cancer survivor is my favourite .

At Christmas we speak to the workers at the local retirement home and get a list of a dozen or so people who don't have family visiting or taking care of them and then do a big shop at Walmart/etc filling up the van with items the workers feel would make them happy.

Sometimes it seems the ultimate goals of some charities are contradictory. Then it's up to you to decide which to support.

This is a great idea!
When my Dad was staying in a retirement home, it was unfortunate how many people there had next to no visitors.
