www.holisticblend.com is the best and only food i have given my bullmastiffs for over 10 years with no issues. and these dogs are known to have food allergies and dont live very long. 2 have lived over 12 years on this food

Blue Buffalo and Royal Canine FTW, I get two large bags and mix the food. Got a German Sheperd and she's at approx 110lbs and not fat lol. The two large bags don't go wasted.

Any other good recommended foods for dogs?

Nothing like a raw food diet for my Danes (haven't ever had an issues in the last 15+ years).

Yeah ive been doing a lot of research on that lately .. theres a place out my way that sells the food for this diet.

Hmmm, not sure about introducing dogs to it later in life - mine were all "trained" to eat raw meat/veggies from pretty much birth i.e. the breeder would wean them off momma's teets with small portions of the mix.

Only annoying part of this is my drive into Cayuga to the butcher to get the meat.

Just FYI this also includes the costco kirkland dog food as well.

Hemi and Thor eat what I eat. Raw diet :D
If there is a recall on that .... guess I am screwed too.

I introduced my 5 year old doberman and my 4 year old pit/shepherd mix to the raw diet a few months ago.
My doberman had a lot of health issues almost all of which have been cleared up. His liver recovered, he lost weight. Skin looks great.
My mix is actually eating again. He lost so much weight because he simply lost interest in what he was eating no matter how many times I mixed it up. Now he eats it all within seconds.

I have done months of research to perfect their diet. My own brother in law is a vet and although he didn't support the transition, he can't argue with the results I've gotten.

blue buffalo all the way! My boxer has been on since a pup, he gets the wilderness salmon one and loooves it!! Great for the coat too! This **** is pricey, but like I say, they are only here for a short time, so give them the best to try and extend that a bit and make em happy!

arcana/orijen is what I've got my animals on, they use free range/wild caught meats.

I use the same, and my dogs love the food and I love the results. My one dog always had digestive issues on other brands, and since we made the change she's never felt better.

No vet I've met likes the raw diet, takes away from their ability to sell you all that overpriced kibble they have in their clinics.

Yeah, it's a bit of a process to perfect the mix, and everyone has their own variation (e.g. each of my dogs gets 2.5lbs of raw meat, which is mixed with raw veggies, kelp, grains and fish oils, twice a day).

To keep 'em amused at other times, they get to chew on big 'ol cow bones (and the occasional mini dog - but let's face it, it's not really a dog if it's smaller than the average cat...). :D

Totally agree.

Just curious, how much do you spend per meal for your dogs?

My 4lb Chihuahua only gets the best, Blue Buffalo. She eats like a king. A bag every month or so.

You know, I've never figured that out (the diet wasn't done as a cost saving measure, but as per the breeder's wishes/terms if I wanted her dogs).

However:

- 200lbs of dog-quality meat last me almost a month or so (given there are days the two oafs don't feel like eating, or I may give them a little less if I think they're getting fat), and costs me $100;
- veggies I "cheat" and buy in the frozen section of any supermarket (2 big bags run me about $8 and last almost 2 months based on the portions I mix in);
- A bin of kelp in the pet store is about $20, and it's used in minimal amounts (lasts a half year or so);
- Fish oils, again, about $10, and again, last about a half year (maybe a little less);

Given the above, and on some seriously rough math...probably costs me about $5 a day or so (give or take a few bucks) for both dogs (based on one month).
