MacDoc's new ride 2015 CB300 to 2018 MT03 to 2017 GS310 now sold!

I'll leave the dent..as you say character. Possible he gave me the original exhaust as well.
••••
May I remind you mimico of our speeding fines.
Between 30 and 40 km over speed limit$1078
More than 40 km over speed limit$1653
I'll likely reach 120 indicated in a passing lane but most will be 80-110. I will be interested in how well the windcreen performs. Guys on verrrry long GS310 page indicate sustained 80 mph is fine tho wind and hill can alter that.

$1100-1650 for going 30-40 over...wow...ya, don't do that.

I'm sure many do, is there any reason why their fines are so high down there? I thought we had high penalties.

My guess is at least partly the distances involved and minimal.police coverage. To be effective, the cost of speeding any given drive needs to hurt. If your odds of getting caught are very low, fine must be high. For something like photo radar, odds are very high ypu will be caught so there is a decent argument that fines should be lower.

sburns .....Missed? Well yeah
One of the more convoluted deals I've made based on whimsy.
I was really only fishing when I posted the 2015 CB300F with 65k km on it for $3200.
Almost forgot about it when a girl popped up and her uncle bought it for her. Full asking.
Now I had only paid $2800 for it a few years and 45k km ago
So I went shopping
Up popped a 2017 MT-03 with a rather low asking of $2950 ...cost me $417 in bits and a tire to certify.
So at this point my 2015 high milage CB300F had turned to a more powerful, lower mileage and newer machine for out of pocket $167.
Whimsy again...after looking at prices for MT-03....decided to list it for $5150
Nother girl, first bike, wants to ride with bfriend....offered $4800....well I guess sure as at this point I am miles up in another bracket for shopping.
At this point I can just afford a bike that hit all the "wants" - newer, less mileage, bit more power and in addition off pavement which missing on the MT-03.,,,and I'm $1600 up on it all....had $4800 in hand to spend.

So then Father Xmas intervened and the 2017 GS 310 with tons of farkles I offered $5k for ?? The seller for reasons still a bit unclear sold it to me for $4200!!!
So the aginging CB300 turned into the BMW310 AND left $600 extra in my pocket.

ya think

Actually enforcement is pretty heavy, I've been flashed to slow down in a 100 zone ...I was doing 110 indicated. :cautious:
Regular DUI stops. Camera speed traps in lots of places. 40 kph in school zones with the occasional cop monitoring. My audio book and a small motor keeps me mellow.
Like DUI the heavy pressure just made it unaffordable so the populace just doesn't drink and drive and maybe is slowing down ...certainly compared to Trawna.
In addition in the lonely stretches the legal limit is 130 and doing more than that with the constant risk of roos, emus, cattle and horses wandering the highways with no fencing ...self preservation rules.
The high costs of fines will get some of the chronic offenders cleared away.
The current problem is young kids as young as 13-14 joyriding with no licence.

Four Queensland kids go on 1000km joy ride

Four kids packed a car with cash and their fishing rods and went on a 1000km joy ride - until their luck ran out when they least expected it.

They actually just changed the Learner laws to only allow one passenger. Tiered licencing is pretty strict - even more for mcycles.

Been years since I've been to Australia...but I do recall my cousin (in his Commodore V8) driving stupidly slow on the highways and side routes when I was there.

When I asked him if he ever opens it up, he said 'no way, the fines are way too high here to risk it'.

Which isn't surprising for him as he spent 30min fixing what I 'broke' by changing a radio setting...but still shocking when he told me about it.

@MacDoc

At the risk of being accused of being pedantic, allow me to help you with the nomenclature of your new bike.

BMW Motorrad has many series of motorcycles: C, scooters; F, parallel twins; R, the boxers; K, inline three, four, and six cylinder; S, the hyper inline fours. And finally, the G series, small displacement singles, of which your bike is one.

The G series consists of two bikes, manufactured in India by TVS Motor Company. There is the road going version, G310R (there is actually a G310RR, but I don't think that's available in North America), and a more adventurous model, the one you've acquired.

Thus, your bike is properly known as G310GS.

Ride on!

Correct tho GS310 or 310GS a bit easier nomenclature to type.
You have a doppelganger at ADV
Won't need to lower the bike but might want to adjust the shifter as shown in this as I have the same boot problem getting my toe under the shifter. I'm wearing the same boot as in the video. Had that issue with the MT-03 as well. Footpegs are so much better on the GS than the MT.
Still nice to know I could lower the GS if I shrink any more as I age.

Partner was a bit taken aback as the new bike occupies much more physical space in the carport but I reassured her it was only 14kg heavier than the CB300F tho likely a bit more with the extra farkles....then so did the CB have extras.
Wider bars with BarkBusters, wider foot pegs, a little taller, engine guards all contribute to the "presence" of the GS.
The previous owner switched to LED headlights as well.
The MT-03 was slim and narrow but actually weighs more than the GS.

I am very curious to see how that bike does at highway speeds...let's say 120-140kph.
GS 310 is not built for speed or range. Most reviewers peg comfortable cruising speed at 100kmh, hard work and buzzy at 120kmh, and not possible at top speed of 135 ( a 220lb payload on a flat road. )

At the risk of being accused of being pedantic, allow me to help you with the nomenclature of your new bike.

To be fair, some of the nomenclature is hard to remember. I've owned my EXC for over four seasons now, and I still have to look up on the Internet whether it's EXC-F 500 or 500 EXC-F or what...

Vast majority of owners call it the EXC500, but that's actually not pedantically correct.

Top speed a bit more than that (143) but even 20 over is crippling financially here
Between 11 and 20 km over speed limit$431
Between 20 and 30 km over speed limit$646
Between 30 and 40 km over speed limit$1078
Most smaller bikes are comfortable at 100-110 and I've never found singles to be buzzy but then I have Grip Buddies always.

Bit off my feed today so did not go out but got some of my farkles set up and transferred stuff to the new tank bag which is fully waterproof...something my magnetic is not. Got the TPMS sorted but no obvious place to mount it. Stuck it inside the tank bag.

Tires are noticeably bigger
Front :-110/80-R19, Rear :- 150/70-R17 and off pavement tread

Might have to put something grippy on the rear rack surface as everything slips around

Lovely tomorrow - zilch wind. Screen Shot 2024-10-31 at Oct, 31 2024 2.43.09 PM.jpg
Glad I did not try for Chillagoe today - still hot up there tomorrow and days will get steadily warmer. At least it is dry. Gave away my cup holder ....that may have been an error.

I think Honda has the best naming, Fireblade, SuperHawk, TransAlp etc. Number/letters only are confusing and boring. Gixxer works. RE does well with names like Himalayan.

Not quite done with storage. Tank bag works the charm and the little tool bags on the sides very useful.
Have to figure out how the quadlock works. Likely won't bother. I'll use the one from the eBike.
This is how the the seller had it set up and rear bag does not hit my boot√

That rack is slippery but think I can slip the lap top case under it. That's for tomorrow. Cover fits okay too.

I just want to get a ride and stop fiddling....crumb_head_explode.jpg
I'll wait till the small 6L Rhinowalk arrives. $25.
Screen Shot 2024-10-31 at Oct, 31 2024 10.14.00 PM.jpgmight try the 20L on the rack tomorrow ...that fits it all. Camera fits well in the tank bag and fully waterproof. 20L would fit the big lens and the laptop and other bits.🍿

congrats again!

Thanks - up at Skybury - a 75 km shakedown cruise with some mild traffic, twisties up the range, lights, people and traffic through Mareeba and 100 kph runs at 110. I was reading that the bike runs pretty true speedo indicated to actual. Will dig out a GPS app.
Bike is much more comfortable at 110 than either of the previous rides. Wider bars, more upright all welcome. but no drama.
I am not entirely flat with both feet down...seat is wider and of course 2" taller
The bike is a bit "buzzy" at lower speeds - mirrors are quite clear at speed but there are some resonance points where they blur.
Can feel a bit of vibration through my boots at lower speeds but not on the highway. I can see the reviews at city speeds claiming "buzzy". Nothing compared to the KLR. The tires are larger and 50/50 so do add some vibe depending on speed.
No thrill in the throttle but better pickup than the Honda and it is happier at lower rpm than the Honda or the Yamaha....baby thumper torque showing better than with the Honda.
Exhaust noise is annoying....going to try and find a stock one for sale. Goes away at highway speed. Loud in the driveway.
Seat is wider, my hips are complaining but tailbone very happy.
The little windscreen set up works fine and the upright seating an absolute treat. Nary a twinge from my back.
Kickstand sits the bike very upright until I dismount...I do have some "sag"
Oddly my yearly insurance with comprehensive went down to $278 from mid 300s for a year ...happy with that. Might be a classification change.

Heading home now ...already 31 in Mareeba but very dry.

Okay this was disconcerting. Front brake seems to lose hydraulic pressure as I was coming down the range, lever gets close to the bar - pump a bit and pressure returns - front end pogos a bit as coming to a stop. Initially put it down to longer suspension
Thinking water in the brake line. Fits what is happening.

Also scored a deal on stock exhaust located in Aus for $189 + 22 shipping.
Keep partner happy....me too.

I think Suzuki has the best names:

Hayabusa, B-King, Gixxer, Hustler, Titan, Gamma. Tame bikes also get good names: Savage, Intruder, Marauder, Katana, VanVan, Tempter, Burgman, Bandit and ... Vstrom.
