Hey everyone I go for my theory class tmr and I’m super excited finally got all my safety gear together with the most recent piece being an armour plated hoodie that comes with spine, elbow/arm and shoulder protection. Last thing I need is a new pair of jeans and some riding shoes which I’ll get tmr or Friday. Wish me luck image.jpg

Good luck!

And have fun!
Thanks bud and thanks for your previous help as well I’m happy I didn’t skimp out on my safety gear. This hoodie was a live saver though while I know riding jackets are for protection I don’t like how they look the style is just not for me, so I looked into alternatives first thought process was armour plating you can buy for regular clothes but then I stumbled across this hoodie

Something is better than nothing!

Worst thing is to buy something that everyone recommends but you end up never wearing because it's too hot/cold/tight/loose/uncomfortable/ugly/whatever...

The best gear in the world won't protect you if it's always hanging in the closet while you're out riding.

Facts also I’m quite sensitive to certain materials due to my autism so if I can keep it as close to regular clothes as possible then I’m all good. Idk I just find most of the leather or jean style jackets rub against my skin in all the wrong ways

As someone that has hurt an ankle before, when shopping for riding boots consider whether you feel comfortable with someone jumping on your ankle while you are laying down. That can happen even with a simple tip over where the bike traps your ankle. The vast majority of "riding" boots and almost every riding shoe won't do well with this test. Personally, I wouldn't be paying the premium for "riding" shoes as they will probably fly off in a crash anyway. Boots or bust for me.

Have fun in your course. Good luck.

There's enough educational material out there on the Internet, and the Theory class that he's going to take will re-iterate the importance of good safety gear.

If you're old enough to hold a driver's license, then you're old enough to accept whatever the consequences are, if you decide to forego good advice.

If the CruiserManlyMen want to wear their plastic beanies, leather vests and fingerless gloves, and the CrotchRocketBoys want to wear their Icon armored vest over a T-shirt and wear running shoes after the course, as an instructor, my conscience would be clear at that point.

Man I’m just tryna be comfortable and not like die my main thing for like riding shoes is I want something comfortable and semi casual that also adds as much protection as possible. Finding protection and clothing that works for me is pretty hard tbh cuz like I said I’m super sensitive to materials and how clothes feel on me. As for like riding shoes I just want something that won’t be as bulky as a full boot but not as flimsy as regular running shoes but I’ll make sure to do my due diligence before I rush into them

That message wasn't directed at you, it was to GG.

You're not gonna wear boots. You've made that clear. I'm not on the clock so I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise.

Makes sense I won’t say I’ll never wear boots but I tend to find them rather uncomfortable and while that might be a minor inconvenience to most someone like me it’s a little bit of a bigger issues due to my hyper sensitivities. If I can find the right boot maybe I’ll give them a try. So far I’ve only ever had one pair of boots I could wear which were my blundstones but I wouldn’t mind finding more that work for me. The shop I’m going to tmr has a decent amount of options so I’ll try on some boots as well to see if I can find something that works for me

And sorry my message wasn’t meant to come across as me throwing out your advice I really do appreciate all of your help and I do take everything people say on here seriously I’m just not the best with wording things sometimes

This is a good forum, but like any forum some people have more opinions than others.
As stated above, you are responsible enough to lean how to ride, then get on the open roads. You should also should be responsible enough to know the risks with owning and riding a motorcycle. Therefore use YOUR best judgement as to what works and does not work for you, while considering others opinions or point-of-view. My take on riding is dress how you want, it makes no difference to me, just know that based on your choice or lack of gear you may be excluded from certain group events/rides etc. Lastly, you never need to explain your choices or look for validation from other members, you are your own person with your own opinions and requirements. We'll always be here for any discussion(s). :)

Makes sense and ultimately my main goal is safety and I do take what everyone has said here into consideration I think my earlier messages may have come across the wrong way due to lack of sleep as I had just finished working a 16hr shift with little breaks. Everyone’s input so far has been really valuable so again I apologies if my responses yesterday came off as uncaring or like I wasn’t willing to listen to free advice

No offense taken @Canuckles , it's all good.

Your advice was honestly extremely helpful and has leaned me towards at least trying on some riding boots if I can find a pair that works with my stupid hypersensitivities then 100% I’ll be getting them over riding shoes safety and protection are my priority so I’m ok with being a little uncomfortable

My BMW boots are super comfortable (for me). They feel like socks. Discontinued now but similar to the Allround. The purchase involved crying. Most expensive boots I have ever purchased (other than ski boots).

Sucks they have been discontinued gonna check out both the used shop in Oshawa yall linked me a while back as well as a dealership not far from me with some good gear. I have a bike account set up so I don’t mind if some of my down payment funds go towards safety gear. Not gonna cheap out or cut corners with this one

Also I’m not gonna act like I haven’t spent too much on stuff I didn’t actually need so this time I can justify the purchases with ✨safety✨ At least it’ll be easier to explain to the parents unlike the time I spent 6.5k on a pair of headphones but tbf music is a big part of my life including music creation
