M1 RIDERS......are you tempted?????

Ok, so you've got your M1 or even passed your M1 exit and are just waiting 60 days to pass before your M2 kicks in.
Congrats!

Please don't self-incriminate but i was wondering...

Even though it would be risking a suspension have you "considered-repeat considered" hopping on a 400 series highway for a few kms or stretching your riding day a little beyond 30 min before dusk/sunset???

My girlfriend is in a hospital in Guelph for two more months.

On monday, I "considered" taking the 401.

and last week I considered riding to buy smokes at the corner store around midnight.

save your breath telling me its a bad idea to consider this blah, blah, blah...i know.

anyone else "considered" doing this before getting your m2

thx

dude after you ride the 400 series a couple times you wont want to.. its just not fun as riding on the street or back streets or country. the big gta hwy's are just chitty for many reasons

I might have considered a trip into the states with an M1. I might have gotten pulled over in virginia. At night. On an interstate.
The cop might not have known about the motorcycle license restriction and I might have gotten off with just a warning to slow down.

lol nice!! i love virginia.. great state. lobe virginiA beach

I might have taken a few late night rides while on my M1. Makes sense considering there's way less traffic.

However, I got pulled over for no reason other than to check out my papers during the day once, after that little incident I flew straight as an arrow till I got my M2.

I did highway plus late night riding waiting for my m2 to transfer over... if you're doing nothing wrong to catch a cops attention, then it shouldn't be a problem. However, I don't recommend it.

No, I was tempted to write my M1 while there was still snow on the ground, 60 days before my M2 test.
Voila, I pass the M2 and head to the Ministry the next day with the envelope.
It's not rocket science.

Not everyone is interested in starting their motorcycle license in the dead of winter, don't have to sound like a smart *** about it.

what exactly are the penalties if you get caught.
i thought you'd have your license suspended for x days???/
do you have your g suspended too?
whats the fine and insurance consequences/
does it reset the 60 day clock

-30-day licence suspension for the first occurrence;
-90-day licence suspension for the second occurrence; and
-Novice licence cancellation for the third occurrence. Upon a third occurrence, your novice driver’s licence will be cancelled and any time discount earned, time credited or fees paid would be forfeited.

From reading the MTO site yes the Escalating Sanctions apply to your G as well as you M1 licence. you screw up on your M1 and get suspend your G is suspended as well for 30 days.

I believe the suspensions will show on your driving abstract, which will do nothing good to your insurance.

op, i held out on considering it for a while, but then i found myself considering the 400 series highways at night alot.

Things to take into acct. If you consider, make sure to signal every lanne change, don't speed,. If you have fender eliminator with a recessed plate, if your stickers are expired, plate dirty not visible, loud pipe you are going to be more prone to getting pinched.

take into acct, its one driver's permit with a new class added to it. you loose your m1, you also loose your g, which if you need a car to get to work puts you in a bad spot. getting caught driving without a license is not going to be fun.

I rode hwy and 2up constantly with my m1... but I wasn't riding like a retard... and I was constantly on the watch for the po'po (still am, actually). Night riding has never been my thing... to many animals and bugs (at least where I'm located).

I occasionally consider riding at night. It does become tedious to have to put away the bike and bring out the car due to nightfall, especially when I'm already out with others. Haven't really considered joyriding at night.

It has been very tempting to push the M1 restrictions, especially since I finished driver's training only a week after getting my M1 leaving a lot of days left on the 60. Though, I suppose the recent evening/night showers have been a decent enough deterrent.

I didn't want to take chances to screw up my M1 or insurance. But it happened unintentionally a few times:

- Meant to turn onto Lakeshore, ended up on Gardner On-Ramp instead. Took first exit.
- A back country road near Cornwall suddenly turned into 401 on-ramp. Again one exit but first time up to real highway speed.
- Same trip: underestimated time to destination and took back country roads. Arrived 1.5 hrs after dark.
- Highway 115 from Peterborough south - not sure if it counts as not a "400-series" but limit is 100 km/h

Several times likely slipped a little over the 1/2 hour rule at night. Like speeding, figured you get a bit of grace if you are close to home :-)

Now that I am M2, am out every night until late. 400 series are not that fun though, so only if I need to get there faster and traffic is not bad.

I've had my M forever although I do remember doing many things that were less than legal, so, nothing really to add related to the OP's post. But...

When considering the risk of getting caught, you should consider the risk of an accident. If you get in an accident and you don't have a licence for what you're doing, you are screwed. Riding a motorcycle on the 400 with an M1 is the same as driving a heavy transport truck with a G. You don't have a licence to do what you're doing. Insurance will screw you and so will the investigating officer. It ain't just about flying under the radar and not attracting police attention. It's also a matter of luck and not getting into an accident.

You only have one licence. If it's suspended, it's suspended. Insurance will sky rocket. If you get in an accident, they may refuse to pay or go after you for any damages.
