Hello Riders!,
I passed M1 knowledge test in October2019 and then it expired in Jan2020.
Now, I am giving M1 knowledge test again.
My concern and worry is

-> Do I need to wait 60 days again before appearing in M1 EXIT road test?

I have already paid for motorcycle driver safety course+M1 exit exam test on 28 April2021 thinking that i dont need to wait 60days as I have passed M1 knowledge test already in 2019.

Please can you clarify that do I need to wait again 60days after I pass M1 knowledge test? or I can pass M1 knowledge test and go right away to M1 EXIT ride test?

Thank you

good question. i know there's no waiting period for those who previously passed m2's but let their license expire, if they pass the course again.

perhaps @Baggsy knows

I can't say clearly either. My thought is that you need a valid M1 license to take the course. If you have written your new M1 test in the last month (Feb), you would be clear of the 60 days. If you haven't, you should go and write it a.s.a.p., then check at the course when you pass. The signing authority should know. If you've already redone the written test in Feb. or do it in the next couple of days, it won't matter much. By the time they get the new information into the system, your wait time should be over.

As per the regulation here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/get-motorcycle-licence#section-4

"You need to wait at least 60 days before you can take your first road test. Your M1 licence is valid for 90 days. If the licence expires, you will need to start over"

I am inclined to believe once your M1 expires you'll need to give it again, and wait 60 days - That is how I translate "start over"

If there is still a record of your previous m1 in the mto system, you won't have to wait another 60 days. Only the mto can answer this.

You still need a valid m1 to upgrade after the m1x course.

I still have the paper they gave me after I passed the test but I will call MTO and check with them.

Thanks so much

@Baggsy @Evoex I think I dont need to wait 60days, here is an explanation I found while practicing tests online
please check picture below and Green box explanation.

@imcool when are you going to redo your M1 written test?

IIRC you do not need to wait the 60 days between the written test and the course. You will receive a certificate of completion at the course. You will want to ensure 60 days have transpired between written test and your submission of the certificate to MTO to formalize your M1 exit.

This was my process with RTI (IIRC). Been a minute so someone please correct me if i'm way out of line.

I agree with canw and Kurt. That's the way I did it. I was warned not to take the cert to the MTO until the 60 days had passed.

Then I waited for the 60th day after I had passed the M1, went down to the MTO and upgraded my license to an M2.

*DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT* go to the MTO on your 60th day. Go on the 61st day.

It's written that you need to have 60 days COMPLETED before you go in to upgrade to M2. Have had students ***** and complain that the MTO turned them away on the 60th day, and that they wasted hours in line. The other instructors and I make it VERY clear, at the beginning, and at the very end of course before they are dismissed to go home. We regularly have them do a "repeat after me" to ensure that they don't go in on their 60th day, but sometimes they just don't believe us.

Couldn’t remember your name to tag you here. ??

Yes, correct. We shouldn't go on the 60th day.

I went anyways, since it was Friday and I had a ride planned out on the next day. I had nothing to lose, and there was no queue at 4pm in Burlington. They upgraded the license, luckily, and I incorporated 400 series highways on my ride; else would have stuck to back-roads. :)

As far as I know it's all electronic now, so there's no certificate. You have to wait for the administrator of the course to put the results in to the Ministry & the Ministry to verify them. Since many organizations work Mon-Fri, going down first thing Monday morning isn't a good idea. People are told to wait until Tues afternoon, unless there are some extenuating circumstances.

Also, as far as I know, if you've done the test, and let it expire, you need to do it over again, but check with the Ministry and/or course in case things change, like what happened with covid earlier. 60 days from now is the weekend of May 1st, so you'd potentially be able to upgrade on the afternoon of May 4th, if you write your test in the next couple of days.

Correct. You have 6 months from passing to get the license upgraded. Failure to do that results in a second go round, The Ministry doesn’t care.
