My business has seen a notable increase in sales for 2021 and while this is "good problem" to have we still have many problems.
We've had an impact to our stock levels and lead times, in some cases from days to months for goods to arrive. We often are short shipped with little or no warning. I am not blaming our suppliers they are all great and we've worked with them for many years. But this issue will be felt on so many items both for the business sector and the retail sector.

Try buying a new video game console?
I had to look for a new AC for my mother as hers suddenly died (how typical) and everywhere I looked online had little to no stock and longer than average lead times.

What have you guys seen a big change in this year when trying to buy soemthing?

Everything is hooped - supply chain, especially for offshore goods is a disaster.
Go buy some lumber (no, don't) prices for some stuff is up 300% if you can get it at all.

I waited about 3 months for a new AV home theatre receiver.

Good point, I'm due to have my fence replaced this year. I've pushed it back until the fall. But still need a new quote and I expect an extra 1000 added for lumber..

When I was looking for AC's I saw increase 40 bucks in price in 12 hours..

What type of AC unit are you looking for? Feel free to PM me and I'll double check what it is exactly. We have a portable unit on wheels that's barely been used.

To answer your question...lumber is my only frustration. I did the bulk of my work last year pre-COVID insanity pricing...but want to update a few things at the cottage and I'm terrified to look at prices of tiles and the like.

I'm actually slowly buying electrical cable, etc to spread out the pain once the bulk of the work needs to start.

I'm trying to avoid buying things that are not urgently needed. House A/C is hurting and I will investigate replacement but if need be I can punt as it works just not well.

Talked to my roofers and they said material prices for them were barely changed and they had no "covid-pricing" in their rates. Availability of product is an issue. Especially if a colour comes from the US, they are getting to the point of telling the homeowner to pick a different colour or find a different roofer as so many jobs have been hung up by lack of product.

Thanks! But I did happen to find one for her. She is cool and happy!

Yep I work in supply chain. It’s a mess, everyone is hoarding parts to not shutdown the OEMs. Raw materials are frequently being moved to allocation cycles.

Can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel for this year, IMO.

Did you see the latest tactic to free up the goods caught on the ever given? Some people are trying to use 1800's piracy laws to argue that their goods have been stolen and they know where the pirate ship is so gov't should raid the pirate ship to recover their goods.

How’s that work if you shut down the OEM? I recall you mentioning massive penalties per hour but that was pre-COVID.

I know our subs have charged us additional for COVID related expenses and we just pay them.

Agreed. I was shocked at the lack of availability of Polyurethane tubing (something we sell loads of) what used to be a few days is now 12-14 weeks in some cases..

We are doing everything we can to keep our prices stable, but it is getting harder each week..

Lol. I haven’t, but I don’t blame them.

Haven’t followed much of it post getting unstuck. But I imagine many tried filing insurance claims and got told to fly a kite, the goods aren’t lost. 😂

The price is the price, many of our tier 2s have come in for price increases. And we pass it onto the OEM. No ones happy, but no one wants to get shutdown.

Suppliers are struggling but theoretically you have your customer over a barrel if you file a force majeure and tell them you’ll hold shipments until the come to they table and negotiate.

Many of our suppliers are still on the hook for expedites, we’re just not pressing them hard to pay in full at this time.

Shutting down an OEM? Probably still throw the book at you. No one wants to be the first to test that theory.

I need a new front door with sidelights ($$$$$$$$$$$$) and apparently it's at least an eight week wait.

We are going to get a quote for one of those as well. But will most likely wait until 2022

While I am shocked at how much people pay for front doors, eight weeks seems pretty good to me. Assume that your door is some raw material at this point and it needs to get scheduled, manufactured and shipped.

My buddy just paid 6k for a custom side door...at least it included installation.
And people wonder why houses cost so much :/ I think my in-laws may have paid close to 15 for their front door/side lights about five years ago in a side split in scarborough. They are happy with it but the old one was fine, they will not get $1 more when they eventually sell.
