Loving my new Bike

So I did my learning curves course in July, and rode my BF’s CBR250 with ABS for about 3 weeks and then I tried a CBR500. I fell in love!! So many people told me to go Ninja 300, but for a thousand dollars more and 6 buck smore a month on my insurance, I think I got the best bike that will last me a least 2 years. I find this bike so easy to ride, light enough that I can handle it, but heavy enough that I am not blowing all over the road on a windy day. My BF loves it also, amazing bike!!! PS. I got ABS model.

Safe riding!

Welcome.

I heard heavier bikes are harder to handle than small bikes on windy days.

You heard wrong. I've owned both a 250 and a 600 and can say that a 600 is far more stable on the highway and in windy situations.

Small bikes like the 250 don't do well on the highway and in windy situations.

OP - The bigger/heavier your bike, the more stable it will be (think cruisers, goldwings etc.).. even mid-size 600cc bike perform well in wind. Can't comment on the 500 since I've never ridden one (nor seen one for that matter) but it should be a step up from a tiny 250 which is rubbish on the highway.

welcome to the forums!! I know atleast one other person here who will be very happy that you chose the Honda CBR 500 over the Ninja 300...

uhhh...no. I got a stunting charge on the highway on the tiny 250, I'd say its adequate at the least.

Totally disagree with this also! And who buys a bike based on in case its a "windy day"?!! Yes a larger bike would have more power on the highway, but the 250 is an amazing bike and would kick other bikes *** in the city and much funner to ride. Besides, riding on the highway takes zero skill. BORING!

Stop spewing nonsense. Maybe it was due to your lack of riding exp.

I guess big rigs are safer than cars due to their bigger/heavier size. A small bike will perform just fine in windy situations.

My point = a bigger bike is more stable on a highway than a 250... if you disagree with that then I'm not sure where to go from there.

I've only ever had my little 250, so I don't know how a bigger bike would handle. I do notice I get thrown around a lot when it's windy and I'm up at highway speeds (like this morning on the 401).

I would assume a bigger, heavier bike would indeed be more stable in heavy crosswinds, but IMO 250s handle just fine on highways when all is said and done.

This is supposed to be an area for new folks to say hello and such. This is not the place to measure your *****. Reading seems to be a lost art these days

I think all of us on here are well aware that motorcycles are the smallest vehicle on the road ... and that puts us at a disadvantage - therefore, we need to adjust our RIDING according to this - So dont base any bike choice on this "bigger is safer" mentality that is happening here!!!!! (insert ape noises here). Its about progressing in stages with motorcycling. Or, you are cheating yourself out of actual skill. And any really decent rider knows that smaller bikes are actually much more fun than any big ego-beast on the road. .. Just say'in.

Welcome 500Girlie. I am actually thinking of trading in my N300 for a CBR500 right before the season ends. Enjoy and ride safe!

This is what you wrote, which i replied to as nonsense.

A small bike is just fine in windy conditions, the biggest complaint is probably coming from new riders who are just starting out. I ride a CBR250 with a givi box, and find no issues with the wind riding it. Just by lowering your stance(riding in a tuck position) makes a big difference regardless of whether the bike is small or big.

Small bikes don't do as well as bigger ones in windy situations and on the higway.... better?

I have no more difficulties riding a cbr250 in the wind as opposed to my FZ1.

So no.
