my 11yr old golden retriever, had to put him down. always loyal and always would meet me at the door. gonna miss him

so sorry to hear. My boy is 6.5 and being a boxer he's not a long a lived breed. I hope he makes it to 11-12, I'm already dreading the day he goes...but who the hell knows, doing what we do I could very well be first.

Personally I think it's when their life sucks and it isn't going to improve. Other people may have different lines.
Op- sorry to hear. It's a sad time, but knowing your animal isn't suffering provides some consolation.

Sorry to hear. It is always hard. The only real flaw in a dog is they don't live near long enough.

Condolences to you. I know the feeling too and even getting on 6 years and with a new doggy it hurts. Something like losing a child I imagine. As others have said a new doggy will help though ( when you are ready) and there are lots of them waiting in the pounds. There are many foster groups too so you don't need to stay lonely for long.

sorry to hear. We had a 9 week old puppy pass on us earlier this year. He reacted to his 9 week shot and began failing in days.
