Hey everyone!

I don't really post on here much but i enjoy stopping by every now and again to check things out. Anyways, I'm hoping someone could help me out and tell me if this reply from a seller seems sketchy?

------- start of email ---------

Hey,
I got ur reply about my 2005 Kawasaki ZX6-R Ninja ad listed on the kijiji and i confirm that the bike is still for sale for $3500.
The bike is a 2005 year model with only 6500 km,636 cc displacement.
This bike is in mint condition, never been dropped or scratched, runs perfectly and there's nothing wrong with it at all.
No liens,no money owned on it,all paperworks are in order(MTO ownership,Seller's package,Bill of sale)

I'm getting rid of my bike cuz i no longer use it since i went abroad for a medical research project and i'll be living over there for 3 long years but i left the bike to my cousin who was keeping it since a few months but he called me a few days ago and said he's moving to Chicago for admission in an university and he can't any longer keep my bike.
I don't have anyone else around who will be keeping it for me for all those long years so i decided to sell it quickly at a low price to get rid of it.
I intrusted the bike to a private truck driver in Ontario who's taking care of the sale and of the delivery as well.
Im very happy that u find interest in my bike and i assure u that the bike is in very great shape, nothing wrong with it at all,u'll have great fun with it.

So i've talked to the truck driver that i found someone who's buying it and he's requesting ur details and house address so that he will transport the bike and all its paperworks to ur door with no cost at u and once the bike is at ur home you will test drive it,check the papers with the ministry of transportation and if u find everything ok then u will take the bike and settle the payment of the $3500 cash on the spot to become the new owner of my wonderful bike.
So get back to me with the following informations below and i'll forward them to the delivery guy and he will get in touch with u to set up a time for the delivery and the bike will be brought to u asap:
Full name:............../City:................./Post code:................./House address:................./Phone #:..................
I'll be waiting to hear from u asap.

Regards.

Also, did they even make the 636 in 2005? I thought it was 03/04 and 06/07...

Thanks in advance!

Scam.

Scam +1 I can tell just by the poor use of the English language. I wouldn't go near it.

Seen so many of these scams lately its unreal. The ones where you are selling something on kijiji and then you get the reply you have been waiting for to then find out they want to send a driver and will put money into your pay pal acct. (which it would be someone elses acct of course) Then you will be investigated for fraud yourself!

PM me the info and i will have it reported for you.

I'm guessing they make it seem more "legit" by first saying it will be cash deal on the spot with the driver, then flip it around at the last minute?

Scam. I've had a similar story before. Only they were insistent the sale was protected by the eBay buyer protection program.... With a kijiji sale.

thanks guys, wasn't sure! I bought many things including 2 bikes from kijiji and never had a response like that :p

That is not indicative of anything. Have you read some of the posts on here? Talk about run-on sentences, poor sentence structure, poor grammar, poor spelling.

Now back to the topic at hand.....definitely could be a scam. I would never buy a bike if the owner wasn't available for the sale.

And why is it that scammers are always doing research studies abroad? is that supposed to be prestigious?

If it seems to good to be true, it most likely is. Do you really think someone is going to sell a bike for that cheap, have it trucked to you so you can inspect, test ride and all that. And then, only then if you like it will you pay for it? Big scam, and has been done over and over. I wonder if anyone actually falls for it?

It's obviously a scam. If I was the seller my reply would be "Still for sale - here's my number, give me a call if you want to see it". The guy gave you his life story.

These sorta scams are also very common with rental properties in Toronto. People claim to be working overseas and ask the renter to send money in turn for keys and paperwork. Articles have been written in the papers because a good number of people fall for it.

Good luck with your search.

A sarcastic rule of thumb for Moto-shopping on kijiji - If it's not horribly overpriced, it's likely to be a scam.

you should respond , but tell him to contact you at your work address:

RCMP National Headquarters
Headquarters Building
73 Leikin Drive
Ottawa ON K1A 0R2

Yeah, the request for your address and personal information is just a HUGE red flag. They have no reason to have that information, not for a first response on a private sale especially.

What are they going to do with your personal info? Offer you duct cleaning services?

Got one of these the other day when I shot off an e-mail about a KTM 690 for 4000 bucks. Similar story. Load of bull crap.

Always fun to play with these scammers though. I'd give him the address of either a mall or gas station 15-20 mins from where you live, then set a time and date. Checking out the location at the time specified is optional. Then you have to make sure that you message him afterwards and ask him why he didn't show, and rinse and repeat until you get bored, then call him on it. There is nothing that scammers hate more than having their time wasted, less time for them to scam other people. Last scammer I did this to was one of those 'microsoft' employees that called about my computer having a virus on it. Kept him on the phone for 45 minutes before I told him I'm not an idiot and I knew what he was doing. Oh how his tone changed then!
