looking for GSX-R 600 insurance. 29 years old, decent record

I've been riding for 6 years now and my StateFarm renewal just came in at a whopping $1700. Any advice for where else I might look? Got M1 in 2007, full M in 2012.

One minor speeding ticket (10 over), 4-5 years ago - not even on my bike but my car.
One loud exhaust ticket 4 years ago.

From my understanding, these tickets only stay on your record for three years? So I don't think they should affect me today.

At $1700, I might have to re-consider biking... or at the very least, consider something other than a supersport :(

ps. have had my G1 since I was 16, and full G since I was about 20 - if that matters at all.

Personally I found td to be cheaper than sf. Worth calling. Don't go by what their online quote says.

i agree with Roomie on this one. I did the online quote with TD and it gave me $2500 for my ninja 650. Gave them a call and i signed up with them at $1800. You're 29 and im 23 and i had a speeding ticket (25 over) on my record. You should definitely be getting a better deal.

OP what was your insurance before and where are you located?

the thing is before i had house/car insured with them so my bike insurance was only 900. Since house/car insurance is no longer with them- it's gone up from 900 to 1700, too big of a difference for me to bite.

edit: TD is giving me an even higher rate both online and on the phone :( $1900!

What I'm thinking of doing is renewing with TD for the time being, they would charge me prorated price of $70 from oct-feb (as they're motorcycle year starts every february) - which would allow me to pay just $70 for the next 4 months and give me some more time to shop around...

Thoughts on this?

State Farm didn't increase his rate -- the OP removed the car and house so he lots the discounts. Allstate has no interest in sport bikes. Your only options for a GSXR are State Farm and TD. I believe the TD rate drops when you hit 30yo. Good luck!

Aren't you in insurance? I know for a fact my friend has a new cbr600 insured with allstate. Must be 30 or older with a full m is all I've been told.

Sent from my commodore 64 on dial up

Yes, I work in insurance, but if Allstate started writing sport motorcycles it must be a somewhat recent change in the last year or two that I wasn't aware of (or they are making some underwriting exceptions for a few people).

Allstate will write SS policys but you have to be over 30 with your full M or they will turn you away.

My 05 gsxr is with Allstate. 90 a month and only have a bike with them. 30, m, one ticket, yonge and Sheppard (high rate area).

600 or 1000cc

Hmmm I called them and they would only quote me on everything together. Truck, car, house

I'm 30, no tickets but one at fault accident in 2008. Still have my M1 (just serving the 60 day waiting period, passed the course already) and have only had my G since 2010.

Just got insurance on a 2001 GSXR 600 for $642/year from Wawanesa, liability only. They would not take the bike on it's own, so I had to bring my car over.

My advice to you would be to stop trying to get quotes on your own and find a broker. While I was shopping around, the cheapest rate that I got was from TD at $3300 a year. Called up a broker and the same day she had a price of $2600 a year; when I told her I was willing to bring the car over, she got me that awesome price.

Pointing out the bundled rate for the bike but not what you're paying for the house/car/whatever is becoming a major pet peeve of mine

We all know SF will insure an SS for $60 a month, all you have to do is pay $300 a month for your 93 civic as well

Sorry, I forgot to include that.

Car is a 2005 Audi A4 with my wife as the principal and myself as the secondary. She has one ticket and one at fault. They are charging $320 a month with full coverage. I'm in the woodbridge area. TD quoted me $300 a month for the bike and $390 for the car - that's with the multi line discounts of course.
