I'm a big fan of my GS500. I've done a full season so far and figure I'll stick with it for at least one more. For me, wanting to upgrade has nothing to do with the power. I'd just like something more practical for long trips and weekends out of town. It's a pain installing soft luggage all the time. When I do get a new bike, I might even keep the GS. It's a sweet little bike and very easy to work on yourself.
Anyways, my point is, don't get too caught up in the idea that you need tons of power or that you'll only enjoy a smaller bike for a couple of months and then "need" to upgrade. I haven't found this to be true.
