Looking for a little passenger help please

Riding for over 8 years now. Have never had a passenger or been a passenger. This needs to change. Please help. :)

Looking for someone *with experience* that can give me a walk-through on this. I know the theory, i've read literature and watched vids, but practical experience is key, imho.

If you're a couple and don't mind "sharing" (I know I know, GTAM is not a dating site lol) then let me know please.

I can help you with that. Been riding 2 up for years. Not much really to it. Take extra care with stopping distance. Your bike weighs more and takes longer to stop. The extra weight may cause the suspension and steering to change a bit from what you are used to. I usually give my passengers a couple of rules.....don't climb onto the bike until I say okay. They can move around as much as you want, except when I am slowing to a stop or going around a curve or corner.
 
Squeeze their legs together, on my hips, when coming to a stop to keep them from sliding forward into me. If they want to hold onto me, hold onto me lower in the body. I will need m shoulders for balance and steering.
 
Come out for a ride with my girlfriend and I. We can show you anything you need to know about riding 2 up. She can drag her hand on pavement while I'm knee down in a corner. We thoroughly enjoy this awesome roundabout by my house quite often.

It's all about the two people being balanced. Passenger should have full gear, not booty shorts and tank top. Keep your filet mignon from becoming hamburger. Passenger right hand, thumb in right pocket of rider jacket, gripping jacket. Left hand on pillion strap or grab rail. When they become more experienced, have them lean into corners with you (a must for high speed runs on technical roads). Braking distance increased. Adjust chain properly for extra weight, as well as the suspension. Trust each other, if the passenger is stiff as a board from fear, don't attempt a turn lol.

It's all about the connection and team work.
 
Passenger, hands over drivers whaist in a lock possition pushing on the gas tank... Thats the trick for sport bikes, else... They gonna hit drivers helmet with theirs during stops or fly off the bike if a driver guns it.

Holding on to a driver is a bad idea all together as the driver needs to be able to reach controls and not pulled away by some passenger....

When you start use the back brake alot more and earlier when riding in town as this keeps the bike more level and stops the passenger bumping into you.
 
Both your feet on the ground and then they climb on. Tell them to just lean with the bike, no more no less, just follow the flow. As said you just added XXX of pounds to the bike, slow down sooner. And don't play GP rider, put yourself in the rhubarb if you wish. Let them know your exhaust is HOT and to stay clear getting on/off.
If you find they are pulling on your jacket at acceleration of banging your helmet with their during shifts and slow downs, its because your not smooth enough, 2 up on the road is about enjoying having somebody with you, not being awesome.

Why don't you send your passenger over & I can teach her?
 
Riding with a passenger is no big deal. I just tell them not to move around, sit still. Even better when there is a back rest as they do not need to hold on, but if no backrest make sure they hold on firmly and ride accordingly knowing that you could lose them with a simple twist of the wrist.
 
Wear a crappy helmet the first few times, because you're going to be catching their visor and chin in the back of your head many, many times... :) Your 1st -> 2nd shift will reach ninja skill level during this period.

If you bump heads, you're totally doing it wrong... No bumping on a 2 up wheelie, I don't see how people bump when shifting lol.
 
make sure the passenger knows to never get on or off the bike without you first saying its ok to do so. there's nothing worse than someone jumping off and you not being prepared.

Don't you remember the first couple times?? I don't see how it can be avoided when you're new.

I remember when I was in about grade 8.. riding a CT70 down a dirt road with my younger brother on the back. Saw the trail entrance... hammered the brakes and jammed that sweet semi-auto down from 3 to 2, my brother slid forward so hard that he pushed me off the seat onto the area where you would typically find a gas tank. Try stopping right after you just got nut jammed and your feet are dragging on the road.

Hard acceleration shifts from first to second will get it to happen though, quite easily I find, if your passenger is not experience especially. I don't have it happen anymore, but it sure used to.
 
If i feel they're not holding on tight enough (they start day dreaming, lose focus, etc) just a quick tap on their leg to wake them up.

Also, I've found to get them to shift their weight about, to look over your inside shoulder while in a turn. This helps by also putting their helmet to one side as well.
