Looking for a good towing company

Just to add my 2 cents. A buddy got his bike seized near algonquin for 50 over. About 225 km from toronto. We drove about an hour one day to pick it up and decided to call the tow company to make sure they were open, and guess what, they were not.

I remembered I had caa premium and I said fak it, ill use up one of my 5 tows and I got his bike brought home on a FLATBED to his door and didnt have to waste one more second of my time.

How much do you think Toy hauler would have charged. lol?

They is a holding period if you sign up to prevent you from cherry picking their service ( using it same day).

I have a old car and a bike so if I need a 300 km tow I am covered.... They are pretty much useless in my experience in the winter for fixing flats or coming out in a timely fashion.

However, for the number of years I have been a member I could have had a gold plated tow to Florida...

Perhaps reach out and ask what " the toy hauler" would of charged instead?
Probably more reasonable than one thinks, esp after seeing what the competition named here are charging.

Do you offer CAA-like subscription service or just pay as you go? Obviously, I wouldn't expect one hour response times, but maybe something like, pay you $50 a year and that includes up to 300 km of towing with a 24 hour response time. I'm not sure if that could work or not, but it could be a way to increase revenue without grossly increasing your hours. Obviously you'd lose money on a 300 km tow, but hopefully it would be like gym memberships and you would have 10+ people that didn't use their tow for every one that did.

That model has already been tested in the GTA, and failed miserably.

The original question is there anybody cheaper than CAA? Are you for a 300 km tow on a flatbed?

Why would I bother, the point was CAA cannot be beaten on long haul towing but you must pay up front or wait 2 days , it wasnt a shot against your company or any other towing company, just stating facts.

Do you have an issue with that?
 
What about uHaul? Don't they have a rig built specifically for bikes that can be towed behind a car/truck?

Yes, but then you either need to wait for someone to bring it to you, or you have to get to it (and a tow vehicle as very few rentals have hitches). The upside to a tow company is they come to you (and normally reasonably quickly).

Comparing two different style companies now.
The one thing you forget is long haul with CAA is up to 300 kms. And it’s like $2.50 a km after that.. do the math.
They also do roadside service ie emergency pick ups. I don’t .. everything is booked in advance, and currently have a 2 week waiting period to book.

Let me start by saying that I love Costco and I think that everyone should get a membership and shop there.
Some amazing deals to be had.
And $1.50 hot dog and Pepsi? Yes please!

When Esso Auto Club shut down a few years back, after being a member for 20+ years, I had to look for a new auto club.
I looked at Costco because they were supposed to be great but iirc they changed their provider, the reviews were less than stellar, and the new provider did not cover motorcycles. But double check that info.

I ended up going with CAA Plus. Something like $150/ year for peace of mind with all my vehicles. Imho, best deal out there and reliable.

Edit: and iirc you don't have to be a member to eat there.
My kid and his friends get movie tickets at Colossus, then walk over to Costco for dinner then go back and watch the movie.

Technically you are supposed to be a member, but especially if you enter through the exit side, they don't really check/care about membership when you're going to the food court.

And would you challenge yourself to order the whole menu? Granted, they did it as a group of at least two and we don't know how much of each they ate, but I think if anyone here can, it'd be you, Joe B!

300 km per tow x 4/5 per year or 4 x , you do the math.... I start and drop bike off at 300 km points, perfectly allowed.

I wait a day and repeat...

I stay in GTA region. Don’t need 300kms coverage. Renewed with CAA again. Makes sense , if for once I had to pay out of pocket for a tow , it’s probably is equal to many years of CAA.

I’ve had CAA for a decade, only had a tow once and it wasn’t my car. Using the available hotel and dining discounts and travel service I easily pay for the cost of the membership. Taking my mom to Swiss chalet pays for my membership. It’s a hard model to beat if you make use of the other available discounts. There are reciprocals on AAA in the US , one hotel in Phoenix gave us a $45.00 discount because of CAA , it adds up fast
