Ugh. There should be a short test along with any license to make sure you can speak AND write in English half-decently.
I mean come on, honestly.

You kidding right??? So my dad when he came to Canada should have went to school for years before getting a drivers licence??? What does your ability to speak an write properly have to do with your ability to drive or ride???

By the way he still doesn't read English and he is fluent in Gringlish...

Being able to speak one of the two official languages of this country is key to being a useful functioning part of it.


I was side swiped by a lady who spoke no english whatsoever, THANKFULLY a witness who spoke chinese was able to translate.

Really... that's why my father was a successful business owner for more than 40 years... most people that speak fluent English can't keep their business open for more than 3 years;)

the ability to speak/read/write English is very important when attempting to become a licensed driver. the roads and hi-ways are polluted with directions/information/words all written in, you guessed it, ENGLISH!!!!

you should learn the language of the country you are in before you get a licence

no different than myself moving to another country.
if i plan to be licensed in that foreign country, a requirement should be to read/write/speak that language.

i am sure you father is a successful business man, but we are not talking about that.
we are talking about ones need to speak the language of the country they are driving in.

they should make it a requirement in every country to have any immigrants pass a language test, at the very least when they get a license TO DRIVE IN THAT COUNTRY!!!

While that may be the case in an ethnically diverse city where you have portions of society who speak other languages, you're not catering to the majority, are you?

My dad can read signs fine...give him a peice of paper with a paragraph on it that's an other story.

That is exactly what I am talking about. He didn't and doesn't speak good english when he came to Canada when he got his licence and he is an excellent driver...

So people that go on vacations to forign countries should not be able to rent a car or motorcycle becuase they don't speak the language...
 
I can't read or write.
(But I do translate accident reports to chinese as a public service)

But I can ride two motorcycles at the same time while running SIX successfull businesses and beating up all of your dads!
