Let the fuel savings begin

Just had a propane conversion kit installed on my Tacoma the guys did a great job and it runs great
If anyone is interested pm me I'll send you the info to the shop
Cut your fuel costs in half

forget that. i want to convert my diesel express 2500 to run on waste vegetable oil. cut your fuel bill 100%

Yah that's good too if u have a diesel
But for those with gas engines need other options
Now for 50$ I can do about 700 km
That's huge savings the system pays for it's self in about 25 k

Isn't it really hard to find stations to pump auto propane outside of the city?

I would not know as I live in the city but with the conversion ucanrun on either one
If u run out of lp it switches to gas automatically maybe it's for city ppl

pays for itself in 25000 km
that a lot of driving to get a return
from my math it sounds like your kit cost you about $1800 to convert.

25,000 is only about 1 years driving for most. on a newer vehicle looks worth it.

When I used to research this, not sure if it applies today, I recall propane being hard on valves and requiring engine work sooner than later, resulting in long term engine damage. Also, propane reduces the hp of the engine?

Perhaps things have changed, and I cant be bothered looking it up, but these were issues about 15 years ago.

IMHO, a manufactured from the ground up hybrid vehicle would be the way to go.

Propane has less energy then gasoline so you have to burn more to make and equivalent amount of power. Auto propane has shot up in prices 2-3x in the last few years, and is hard to find outside of the city

Most propane conversions are brutal hack jobs, even worse then professional car audio installers. It is quite often for a conversion to run lean and therefore hot and burn valves. Oh and the systems with the large intake mounted mixer tended to freeze in winter weather stranding you.

Id had a snowball fight with Satan before I converted a vehicle I own.

Track your numbers for a while and post them up. Previous mpg, current mpg, fuel cost ect..

there are boat loads of taxi cabs and work trucks running around on propane, if the taxi guys do it , it must be cheap and long term viable at this point.

I'd love a natural gas converson for my F150 and a fill valve at home in my garage. My dream.

What kind of vehicle do you drive? What as the actual cost? Who did it?

I had a work van that used propane years ago,my employer went back to gas, there must have been a good reason?

I live in Peterborough and the gas station near my house has it. Also there is a gas station near my parents house in Marmora that has it and that's definitely not the city.

My brother inlaw did it on his Tundra, seems happy. He drives around 40-50k km a year so it makes sense.

Pretty popular in Europe. Most of my family either does diesel or propane. For me it doesn't make sense as I cage it in my personal vehicles about 5000km/yr. While running on NG would allow you to set up a refueling station at home, it won't come cheap and you reduce your range a lot as propane has 2.5x the calorific value of NG.

The reason there was/is head damage on propane powered engines is because gasoline cools the intake valves as it enters the cylinders, propane doesn't. The excess heat causes valve seats to get pushed up into the head. Google valve seat recession for a better explanation.

I would like to see some info on running lean with propane though, because it doesn't have nearly as broad an a/f ratio where it's still combustible like gasoline does. I drove my uncle's Audi in Europe years ago which was converted, and when filling up, the guy filling the tank was smoking. I've never seen that at a gas station.

The install Is 3-4 k and is pro installed not hack job runs with yous original comp
U start car it runs on gas and once it gets to 30deg C it jumps to propane
Today's new systems are far more advanced the they were a few years ago so np problems in winter
All you need to do is chance plugs every 80 k and you produce less emmisions and your engine runs cleaner cause not as much carbon produced your oil looks like new even after a while
I thought there would be a power loss too but once I started driving if I didn't know myself I would have never noticed the difference I wish I have done this 35 k ago when I got the car
And now that summer is coming up I'll be riding so I figure by beginning of winter it will have paid for is self

And if you read reviews make sure they are current I mean with in the last 12 months as the good conversions are new

I believe firmly in that.
Let me know if you have it done

summer project to hack something together for the $1200 truck

Have you done research yet?

I heard you have to heat the veg oil in winter or else it will just solidify in the lines. Also some people start the motor with regular diesel to heat everything up, then run the veg oil when it is warmed.

You also need to source your used veg oil
