well here is a lovely response i got from trying to order wine from B.C.

"Dear Mr. xxxxxxxx,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing some of our wines through our online ordering system. Unfortunately, due to current regulations and a “cease and desist” letter received from the LCBO we are not able to ship wines directly to consumers that reside in Ontario. Because of this we will not be able to complete you order as requested.

Again thank you for your interest in our wines.

Sincerely,"

oh and a bottle of CC is cheaper in texas than it is in ontario...****ing gubament.

oh and the Drummond report on how badly the LCBO was under using their purchasing power...deliberately over paying for product. nice 1 guys!

its a tax on people that actually buy CC.

LCBO does a great job on good acholol.

If you really want it, just order it through the lcbo. I wanted to get some Jamaican rum that is not sold up here and they were able to order it in...pending I bought like 10 cases. (12x 26oz bottles per case) Which came to about $5000...only wanted one bottle, no thanks.

I think its alright that the LCBO isnt pulling a WalMart by raping suppliers and manufacturers to lower their prices (and product quality)

I don't think they should pay MORE than fair market price, but just because they have huge buying power doesn't mean they need to beat providers down into the ground.

the people who Run LCBO are complete morons.

they revamped all their stores, prettied them up and probably spent a ******** of taxpayers money to do it

WHY ? to get more customers ? There is NO compitition !!!!!!

they could have 4 blank walls, and a concrete floor, and they's still do the same business.

Screw the LCBO....

Buy your wines directly from the winerys that dot the niagara area.

They spent taxpayer money in the sense that almost all their customers are taxpayers.... but they sure as hell aren't spending 'tax money'. The LCBO makes $1.5B net income per year. Almost all of that is transferred directly to the province; or back to the taxpayer, if you will.

Sure the booze is more expensive than other regions, but the profits all come right back into provincial coffers for use on health, education, and other services which run Ontario. What would be a travesty is if the LCBO was sold, like governments tend to toss around once in a while.

Yeah, that's sort of the Catch-22 of the LCBO. It is making money for the government..however, it may be we're paying too much for booze and that's why they're making money! :) I would hate to see it sold off and not allow competition from other retailers. That would be kind of 407-ish. At least staying as a government corporation we're ultimately seeing something coming back..a sort of tax I suppose. I find it hard to believe that the government would sell it off and open that market to competition as well, so we would ultimately end up losing I believe.

If it was sold off without a change in laws/regulations for competition, it would be the biggest BS monopoly ever. That's gotta be worth an armed revolution :director:

Avengers assemble!!!!! Hulk can rag-doll McGuinty..

LCBO pricing is largely set up with tax. Letting private sellors in would probably not bring a better mix of product, nor reduce pricing, most of the price is tax. They detail inventory to suit the demographic shopping at certain stores and if the LCBO was allowed to sell 24's the brewers retail would cease to exist.
Its not s perfect business model ,but it works better than a lot of folks understand.

LCBO is another reason I hate this province.

- yeah yeah, you guys will say" well, if you dont like it, then leave".

- Trust me, I plan to!, I have better options in Australia and NZ :)
