Last decent thing you did

Learn to keep a good deed a secret.
If you're sincere you should never expect anything in return and by seeking glorification on doing something "decent" then you did it for yourself and not the person you intended to help.

Absolutely

A nice read for this topic is Khalil Gibran "The Prophet".

I was at Costco last week and I DIDN'T kick someone's cart over and shove them into a skid of Folgers coffee.... even though they fully deserved it. Does that count?

No it doesn't, I hate Folgers coffee.

I did my nanas groceries/errands last night, but then again I do that every week....I dont know its just in me to do the right thing, I always hold open doors etc, I dont blink an eye it seems like a given.

I think it's kind of a given that people only do good deeds to ultimately make ourselves feel better on some level. And that's ok.

Completely agree. I was trying to make this point to a friend recently. To take the concept further though, I don't believe that altruism fundamentally exists. Rather, it's an emergent property of self-interest... kind of like temperature.

I once try to ran a taxi off the road, I figure it was the decent thing to do. End his pathetic existence for a human being

haha

Old joke: A guy is talking to St Peter and trying to get into heaven after he died. The only good thing he recalls ever doing was once giving a quarter to a begger. St Peter isn't sure what to do so asks God. God's reply: "Give him a quarter and tell him to go to hell."

Would hitting a masochist be considered a good deed?

Gave $30 to a charity... Some lady was doing Tarot card readings in Yorkville.

Apparently, I'm gonna meet a beautiful chocolate lady in about 4 months.

You can never win with a masochist. You can beat them, which will make them happy/be what they want.
Or you can not beat them. Which is what they DONT want. So they'll be sad. Which is what they want.

Either way, they get what they want.

Absolutely.. If you do something nice for someone, it's up to them to tell the tale.

That's cute.

And make Ontario roads a littlebit safer

On a serious note, if you do a good deed, you're making the world around you a bit better, so in the end you are doing something nice for yourself.

This reminds me of something I heard on the radio a few years ago... I forget what station...

It was Random Act Of Kindness Day and the morning show people were asking listeners to call in and tell them (read: brag) about what they had done. I thought it was pathetic.

I'm thinking of building my own Mad Maxesque shopping cart for my next visit there.

Im currently designing a quick-disconnect cow catcher that I can mount on the front of my cart.

Some combination of Mad Max and Twisted Metal would be ideal.

but someone out there listening to those "pathetic" stories might be inspired to do something just like it or close to it. and hopefully the cycle goes on.. we humans are very impressionable. surround yourself with good (i.e. listen to other good deeds people have done), and those things will become the norm.

however, i do agree it does seem a little selfish to boast about any good things you have done. i think we should turn this into something along the lines of "Whats a recent good thing someone has done for you?"

Yes, IMO, what they should have done was had any listeners who had been the recipient of such good deeds call in and tell their story.
