Laser Eye Surgery Anyone?

Agreeing with everyone here, I've got about 4 people I know who have had it done, and love it/would do it again in a heartbeat. I haven't had the guts to take that plunge yet, so I've been wearing contacts that are the "day and nights". Basically, you put them on, sleep with them on, and one month later take them out. I get the same flexibility for much less upfront cost. THAT SAID, I'm sure if I add up how much I've spent on these contacts for the past decade, laser would by and large have been the cheaper, more convenient option. Toss in the fact that many laser places offer financing plans, and my contact lenses almost seem downright stupid...

I had it done a few years ago, I had lasik with intralase (a laser cuts the flap, I have large pupils) performed by TLC. It was an amazing life changing procedure and I couldn't be happier with it.

I actually ended up with better than 20/20 vision, no halos or any side-effects.

I know someone else that had it done by another cheaper place and ended up with less than 20/20 so don't try to save money, go with whoever your eye doctor recommends.

I would say that any surgery involving your eyes, going "cheaper" is never recommended lol... unless you want the kind of doctor that was in Minority Report

Your story is almost exactly like mine to the T. Except personally I did find the procedure to be painful - not the laser or any of the operating procedure itself per say but I found the apparatus they use to keep you're eye open and apply "pressure" to be extremely painful and I left feeling like someone had punched me in both eyes. The area around my eyes was very sore for the first week.

I'm now two weeks post op going into my third week. I was similarly assessed at 20/15 in both eyes... but I have the haziness and I find it frustrating. Although the doctor said I can ride the bike if I want to - I don't feel comfortable riding it with this haziness.

I'm hopeful that as you had said - by the third and fourth week it will be all cleared up. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Just saw this...sorry about the pain...I guess it goes without saying it's kinda different for each of us, however the good thing is, it was quick right?

The haziness and the weird focusing took a while to go away...It's been years since I had it done now and I don't even remember when I had those issues...but keep up with the drops and always keep some Neutral Tears around for those odd days you wake up with dry eyes..

Good luck, glad you had it done, and definitely wait a while longer before riding....personally I didn't want to chance sand or otherwise flying into my helmet and in my eye...You've paid a lot of money to get your eyes fixed, the bike can wait another 2 weeks.

I'd say that any surgery involving your eyes better be medically necessary, and not because you think it's cool.
If you survey 100 people and 99 of them say surgery was fine and one thinks it wasn't fine - are these good odds for surgery that's not necessary? On your EYES!

Has anyone gotten this done or know anyone who got this done? If so I have a few questions:

1) What was your/their prescription before you/they got it done?

2) Who did you/they go with and why?

3) How much did it cost?

4) Happy with the results? Side effects? Regrets? Things that would have been done differently?

5) How long before you got back on the bike after surgery?

Didnt real whole thread so might repeat some things. My mom had it done. she did the contact implants though not laser.

She had a very high astigmatism. dont remember exactly

She went with bochner. A lot of research was done by both of us and we decided it was the best. i went with her and i can vouch for it. place is very clean and they operate like machines lol. 1 eye every like 15/20 minutes.

for both eyes it ran her 6500 ish

she had it done roughly 2 months ago. due to her high astigmatism she wasnt able to see as well as she had hoped (or was told) and driving was a pain for the first few weeks as lights were blurry even in day light. or she had trouble seeing them until they were fairly close.

everyone ive talked to at bochner while waiting were very glad they did it and dont regret a thing.

good luck

How about you stop trying to force your opinion on everyone?

Thanks! I agree completely.

I wont read the rest of the responses.

Cant recall my prescprtion at all, but had my done at the Y2K fiasco. Everyone talking about computers crashing, and here i am going in for major eye surgery.
Got mine done by a place by North York General, at an opening special of $1200 for everything!!

Next day i met the MTO standards to drive, and by the second day i was good to go. I had no side effects or such. I did have to buy lubricating drops for my eyes for almost a year afterwards though.
Now 12 years later im still good, though the doc said by the time i hit 50 i will need reading glasses as will most who get this surgery done.

The flap they make can be now done via laser, and they have reduced the side effects of the "halo" some people get as the technology has improved.

lol
why would anyone even post that? are some people THAT self important??

Anyways my sister used to be in the medical profession and after hearing of all the patients that had coplications i will NEVER go through with this. I currently have 2 sets of glasses, regular and sunglass and its a whole lot easier to put them on/off then deal with the 1% of crap my sister told me about.

Its a risk, but you rarely hear from the people who had problems because they can't SEE anymore!

Can you elaborate on what she did in the medical profession and also what kind of complications she saw - or what were the more common ones, and how many patients with complications are u talking about?

Also - the risk of actually going completely blind because of the procedure is probably exceptionally minute - I would suspect the main risks of complication come with a) night vision issues b) over correction c) under correction d) flap dislodge, tear, pin hole or incorrect placement e) eye infection d) sensitivity to light - none of which result in blindness and most of which dissipate over time or can be corrected or treated or resolve on their own.

Please don't get your medical advice from Google either, speak to an eye care professional. Not everyone is equal risk, some people are higher risk, they're warned and still proceed with it.
