Ladie's 5'4 and under and an SS

I'm 5'6 and got a 2004 ZX6R recently that I couldn't even get both toes on the ground with. I shaved the seat while it's away for the winter, so I won't really truly know if it made a 'good enough' difference to not have to lower it. Sometime I wish I was taller, but then I think of movies like Deuce Bigalow.....'That's a Huge B*tch!!!' and I think that I'm happy with being 5'6 :)!

If you are judging things in your life by comparisons to Deuce Bigalow...
you might have even bigger issues than being 5'6" to worry about:rolleyes:

Ground clearance? the issue is not ground clearance! it has to do with banking angles

In all fairness, some of us are not looking to ride like you do. I for one, will never ride like that unless I decide to try the track in which case I would get a track bike. I'm hoping to get my bike lowered in the spring.

I am ok with people not riding "like I do" but i guess my point is, why get a supersport motorcycle when someone does not have the desire to take advantage of it and ride at a decent performance level? the looks? why not get an SV650 and then lower the hell out of it as much as you want, or if the enjoyment of riding is what you want then why not get a cruiser? once again it makes me think that it is for the looks and the cool factor of a sports bike AKA posing ability

I am not saying I am right or anyone else wrong, this is just my opinion

Anyone that gets a sports bike should try to some day get to the level of riding that bike to their best ability, lowering the bike will not allow that person to do that.

As a new rider, I lowered my first sports bike because of the same reason any new rider does, lack of confidence, it was a mistake hence why I am offering my opinion, from my own experience

A couple of months or riding the damn thing and the rider will forget about lowering the bike

But hey, what do I care :)

Not really, has to do with me loving the bike I get.

As for the cruiser, in a perfect world I would have both, but $ is limited and I always liked SS more than I did cruisers.

Posing, that's funny, considering I've only been to 2 meets and only because the people I was with wanted to go.

Have you looked in to Vespas? Lovely looks. They even come in pink!

So go get one if you like it so much.

I would but I can't find a lift kit for them

What are you, 7 feet tall??

You don't need to be under 5'6 to be limited to only ride a Vespa.

Only one possible solution left then. Stop giving m/c licenses to chicks.

Femme, which bike are you interested in? I understand you’re plight as I’m just a hair over 5’ 4” myself. I have played with the ride heights on many of my (and my wife’s) bikes. Even so, we’ve both had mishaps over the years, it happens. I want to make a ride height adjustment to my new bike but it’s so new no one is marketing anything for it yet.

Notice I’m barely able to tippy toe. After 3k kilometers I’m use to the “slide off the seat to get a foot down” method on this bike. It works fine when on level ground but I had a few “almost lost it” moments this past fall when we were down south.

Your last bike was a lowered SS so you have some level of experience. I’d suggest you buy what you want and try to ride it stock. If after a couple thousand kilometers you’re still not confident then look into lowering it. But, try only an inch this time. Good luck and remember it’s not the quantity of miles but the quality of the smiles you get from riding that counts.

We have spoken and I know you are not a poser, wasn't my intention for you to take it personal, like I said this was just my opinion.

This is the best advice here from someone with experience

I don't think this thread has anything to do with woman riding vs Men, i know some girls that ride a lot better than a lot of guys on this board.

Hello FemmeF,
Much information from previous GTAM posts regarding lowering bikes, practical and technical aspects. (shaving seats, dog bones, height enhancing boots, etc)
However, every year new options exist and it's wise to discuss lowering for benefit of new specs. I was surprised to
learn about a few SS bikes that have been redesigned to suit a shorter inseam, from Jamie at Sturgess. I am always on
the hunt for a more suitable ride, and am not content with a cruiser. The Duc Street Triple 2013 is on the list. Honda 700.
Kudos for wanting to ride a SS.
Too bad to see so much tongue in cheek and up their a***es smirky guy comments here.
