Ladie's 5'4 and under and an SS

OK so my old bike was lowered 2 inches and I was able to flat foot in normal riding boots. I'm debating on whether I should with the next one. What do you ladies who are 5'4 or shorter do to work around this?

During medieval times they used the rack to stretch short people out. As an optimist, I believe it's worth trying if you're going to run into such a problem with every bike you're interested in.

Im 5'3 and im on a honda rebel - I can touch down great on it. I was at the bike show and was able to sit on many different bikes. Honda rs and phantom were too tall. Harley Iron 883 and superlow were actualy a good fit. I would like a lighter weight bike. Don't have much input on sport bikes.

Cruisers sit lower than sportbikes. A lot lower.

Why do most people have to put both feet down and flat foot to ride a motorcycle. As long as you can get one foot down or balls of your feet down you can ride it. Sure when you first start riding it is nice to flat foot but it is not needed to ride.

Because unlike cars, bikes fall over when stopped if you don't hold them up, they weight 400+ pounds and you can't always pull way over so you can put your foot on the curb.
The more angle you get on the bike's lean, the harder it is to hold up. If you hit a patch of road with bus knuckles, or a slippery surface, you are going to have a harder time.

On some bikes you can get an inch or two out of the seat padding.
Also if you narrow the seat that may help.

Thanks that article is exactly what I was trying to say.

My wife is 5'2" and easily rides her BMW R1200R with a 31" seat height and rides my Speed Triple with a lo seat (31.4"). Puts left foot down when stopped. Can't back it up with both feet so she simply gets off and walks it back if needed.

The hardest thing on a true sportbike for her is the clip ons. Shorter arms and reaching forward her head has to tilt backwards a lot more than most and that gets uncomfortable but standards like the Speed Triple/Street Triple/Monster etc no problem.

If you were happy with lowering your previous bike, why don't you just do that again? Was/is it a cost factor?

5'2. Never been able to ff a ss. You get used to it. I slide my butt off a bit.

Maybe we should just stick to the kitchen and babymakinz!

Actually, it's the fact that I can't seem to find a lower kickstand. The kickstand I had was made by roaring toyz and they don't make it for what I'm looking at now. I've read that I can cut and weld it, but I've also read that it some cases it may snap over time.

Its not really much about flat foot or being able to put both feet down if you're short - its more about your weight(females) and the ability(strength) to keep the upright at a stop.

Nobody really has both feet down at a set of lights to keep the bike balanced, its mostly on one leg.
I suggest just practice balancing SS on one either leg and go ahead grab your SS

Wow! So much angst in this season of joy
its true short people can ride even if their feet are not planted flat but the real problem occurs when you stop uphill or a steep downhill stop sign
also on uneven roads its all the more dicey, for sure if the lady feels comfy lowering the bike then she should

Use the front brake. No one should lower their bike, don't get a sports bike if you are going to lower it, get a cruiser may as well

Its just lack of confidence which will come with seat time.

Remember ladies, it's not just about height it's about girth too ;). A wide saddle will feel taller.

i think its awesome to see girls on bikes no matter what type of bike, cruiser or sport/ss.

Amen. For me, nothing sexier than a chick on a SS (is that sexist?)

For me, it's a personal choice. I feel more comfortable, and in control, if I'm able to be flat-footed when sitting on a motorcycle. I would not buy/ride a motorcycle if I can't be. Again, a personal choice.
