L/F Dash Cam Recommendations

I've been using a cheap Viofo A119 for a few years now and it's been good. If I had to get a new one today, I think I'd like to try out one with a rear camera.

oh and all the really crazy hijinks I used to see on the QEW stopped the second I got a dashcam

Just ordered the Viofo A119 V3.
Decided I don’t need a rear facing camera which would be recording the front of a trailer the majority of the time.
Deciding factor for this was that it doesn’t have a lithium ion battery but rather uses a capacitor which is supposed to be better. Plus, the picture quality looks decent enough for what I want it for.
Thanks for everyone’s input. If I happen to catch anything worth posting, I will!

Try and get a high endurance sd card for it. I chewed through the ultra and extreme ones too quickly. For SanDisk they are white.

I have a Blackvue 590, it does the job.
Front view only and hardwired to key on.
I was paranoid about battery draw and so I just risk missing parking lot incidents; practice parking prejudice (avoid minivans, suv's, or anything that looks like the owner doesn't care about their car)

Install was easy, setup was easy and the menu is very user friendly.
Truck won’t be used much between now and the Spring so it might take a while before I get to ‘catch’ something.
Thanks again everyone for your input!
For my own dashcam I discovered during the pandemic that if my car gets very light use it can potentially lose settings. Only happened once or twice, just warning you about the possibility if you park your truck for two months or whatever

Is that just fancy marketing for larger capacity?
I've had better luck with Kingston micro SD's with my GoPro over SanDisk.

I have no idea if it is reality or marketing but SD cards do have a tendency to fail under continuous use. For SSD's they install capacity beyond the rating so they have fewer cycles per location (and they can black out locations that have failed and maintain capacity). I assume the SD's do something similar. A 256 normal may be 260 and a 256HE may be 300. You will only see 256 though as the extra is managed internally. I'm not sure is SD's are that smart though. Maybe it is as simple as testing and/or changing the design to favour reliability over speed.

It's fancy marketing for being intentionally built for dash cams.
You put it in and leave it for a really long time until you need the recording.
The other ones can't read and write as many times and they start producing errors sooner.

These cards all have published specs for write endurance. When I bought mine, it wasn't "high endurance" labelled but had the same maximum write cycles as their high endurance line at the time. What that was exactly, who knows, info was not committed to long term storage

Bump!

Somehow I started thinking about getting a front/rear dashcam for my bike and it looks like the video quality has improved greatly since this thread started. I've read that when installing them, to make sure they are away from the brake or headlights to avoid glare and fuzzy images.

Anyone using them here on your bike? If so, which one?

Any other tips on installing/using them?

I havent installed one on my bike, however I would recommend going with a reputable brand like:

If you dont want to take the bike apart to wire it all in, this place should be able to help you:

Thanks - that's pretty similar to what I was thinking of and wiring it in should be pretty easy on my bike.

Leaning towards this one: Falcon 1 (F1)

Calling @oioioi as he's got a camera on his bike front and rear.

I haven't put one on the GTI yet because I'm still teetering on the edge of 'keep it or let it go' and I'm leaning toward 'let it go' so I never bothered with a hitch or camera.

The dashcam (front and Back) that I have on my bike is part of my Android Auto/Apple Carplay screen. Aftermarket item I added to the bike.

I can try to pull some footage off of it to provide a sample.

I will be selling the Android Auto screen as I do not like the way it mounts on my bike.
