Kriega tail bags.

I'm looking for something I can put on my SuperDuke for road trips and commuting (I use a backpack now but don't like having things attached to me in case of a get off).

I'm looking at the Kriega US 40 (1 x US 20 and 2 x US 10's) which looks to be a good, modular, waterproof system. Does anyone have one and if so, what are your thoughts on it?

Cheers

I recently bought a uS-20 bag. All I can say is this bag is worth every penny.

Do make sure you get the alloy hook straps so you can hook it to your subframe.

Waterproof, rugged, i fit a tonne of stuff, it compresses it all really good so you can load it up. in the us-20 i had riding jeans, long jons, hoodie, bunch of long sleev shirts, anti-monkey butt, chain lube, sandals, shorts, sox..... had froggy toggs rain gear wrapped in another jacket on top - also included staps for that. I reccommend getting the 8.00 connector buckles - basically 2 female clips.

solid as a rock when attaching to a subframe. Ill post pics in a few days

Couldnt tell it was there when I rode for 4 days thru PA

A++++++

edit:

also when using the alloy straps all you are left is 4 little straps attached to your subframe. When not using the pack, just stuff them under the seat.. no need to disconnect anything.

Are these the hooks that come with the US 30? Thanks for the info and looking forward to the pics.

I bought two Kriega US-20 bags a month or so ago (1 for me and 1 for coworker). Nice bag, waterproof, and way more secure than the bungee cord type I've tried in the past. I have the straps going under the passenger seat of my SV, and it seems to be a good fit. Get the connector straps; I didn't and wish I had. The US-20 is a bit smaller than I would have liked. I'm thinking of ordering the US-10 to add on.

I exchanged a bunch of email with the UK office (Kriega is a UK company) because the Canadian and US dealers listed on the North American site were not up to date. Was told the NA distribution network was being overhauled, and to just order from the UK site, and he'd offer a special price. I was told to enter "sample cost required on paperwork" in the comment box during checkout. For two US-20 bags, the customs tag showed a total value of 20 pounds and I don't recall exactly what was in the comment field, but I paid absolutely no duty or taxes.

The shipping from the UK was a bit steep though. 30 pounds (almost $50) for 1 bag, added the second bag to the order, and total shipping was still 30 pounds, so there's some economy to be had by lumping your order into one. Maybe get someone else to go in on an order with you so you can split the shipping. For me and my coworker, the total bill including shipping for two US-20's came to:
KRIEGA CHESTER $148.00 GB POUND @ 1.650472 =

$244.27

$122 CAD each, all in, wasn't too bad for this quality bag.

Here are some pics. Yes the straps I am talking about are the ones that come stock on the us-30

My only complaint so far, is that if you want to grab somethin quickly out of the bag... You cant.. not quickly anyway.. have to undo the compression/tiedown straps, open the top, grab whatever, roll/press the bag closed. Re-do the compression/tiedown straps

These are the hook straps - buy them or you will be wishing you did.

You can easily move these straps under the seat when not using the bag

Actually been thinking about getting a US20.. might be interested in splitting shipping if you're interested.

If we have to get them from the UK, for sure! I'm trying to decide which setup I want; US 20, US 30 (20+10) or US 40 (20+10+10).

I bought it from kriega.us or just go to kriega.com and pick the us site. They will ship to canada (but via UPS)

The rep for the US is very helpfull.

If you buy a us-20 you can always add the us-10 later.

I emailed him to see about a package price for the tank base, us-20 dry pack, connector staprs, and strap keepers. I priced this out on the UK site and it worked out lower after dollar conversion and shipping than the US site. I don't expect a response until monday, no rush in any case.

Well this may happen faster than I anticipated. I guess I'm looking for all that minus the tank base but plus at least one US 10 (if not two).

+1

I bought the US-20 dry pack and tank base. I had a chance to try the pack on the tail and tank. Either way works great. I like the option I can use my 42 L backpack and/or tank bag to carry stuff.

I have the US-30 and also the waistpack. Outstanding quality and I bought them right at Oakville Yamaha. They carry the complete line!

I bought the US-30 from Oakville Yamaha about a month ago. It's extremely easy to hook onto the bike. I got caught in a rainstorm for a good 9 or 10 hours straight with it a few weeks back. It held up great. All of my clothes were completely dry on the inside afterwards. I highly recommend this bag.

*****....where was this thread last week! I just ordered tail bag from GearsCanada for about the same $ -- maybe little less but this one looks more suitable and attaches better....
dang....

Ummmm, I started the thread at the beginning of July... where were YOU? hehe

I decided to ride out and check out the Kriega bags today...

Bad move... For my wallet.

During my pre-ride check I noticed that my last ride had chewed up the last of my rear tire. I decided to go check out the bags anyway. I liked the bags but had to think about the cost of the tires. The staff there was FANTASTIC and took the time to go over things with me. I had them quote the tires on the off chance they could compete with Pete's Superbike's prices... And they did! But I was going to install myself in my garage... The owner tossed out a deal with the Kriega bags and the tires, installed right then, that I couldn't pass up.

Big props to Oakville Yamaha with their prices and selection but mostly their outstanding customer service!
