Korean Food... Recommended Dishes For A First Timer...

Galbi (beef ribs).
Owl of Minerva is not bad but it's a semi-fast food joint. It's a popular post-drinking location.

owl of Minerva is a Korean place? I would have guessed Greek but maybe they just like philosophy or something?

lol I have no idea why the name but apparently there are copy cats out there. The last time I visited there was a sign on the door that basically said "if you don't see the lady then it's not genuine Owl of Minerva"

Hah... That's confusing.

Even if it was a German restaurant it would make at least a little bit of sense since Hegel has an interesting quote regarding the Owl of Minerva.
Nothing on their website either. Oh well. I guess a name is just a name.

We had an awesome time and we were there for over two hours. Go one of the combo dishes thar came with the burner so that it cooked at our table. It was sort of a stew with pork, noodles, dumplings, and tofu in it. We also had bulgogi and a spicy chicken dish. They also automatically set you up with four smaller sharing dishes which included the kimici. We also had a Korean alcohol with it which complemented the food. Will definitely hit the owl again but we will try some other Korean restaurants as well. Was an amazing experience and came to $80 before tip for 4 people and that included the aforementioned alcohol plus some rice tea. Well worth the money and time. ☺?

One thing I feel I must warn people about is the constant stream of K-pop music videos playing on all of the TVs lol

Owl's gamjatang is tops on my list, and their samgyetang is awesome as well. It's probably the best no frills Korean restaurant imho.

When I was going to university of Waterloo, no good Korean place existed. I don't think owl was there either.
TBH, I find Korean BBQ overpriced for what they are so I rarely ever go for it. And I'm Korean so maybe that's why.

My go to Korean food is white rice and kimchi with some kind of soup

There's a place on Yonge just north of Steeles called Home of Hot Taste. They do awesome fried spicy chicken and cheap premium import bottle beer, along with all the other typical Korean classics. But they are by far known for their chicken. If you go during busier times of the day, almost every table has the spicy fried chicken and beer going.
