Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

The grand bend races last year were decent. We met up with Dave and Michel there. Glad we had the ez-up in the truck from the trackday still... it was hot out. Sound system was terrible though.
I rode out there with Julia, must have missed you guys. I remember it being blazing hot!
And ya, the sound system was awful! We ended up sitting in the drag strip bleachers...way less people and, I think, a better view of the action.

So I have my new to me 04 R6 I'll be bringing to the track this year, replaced my SV650 from last year.

Question; my bike is an ex SOAR bike and before that CSBK so it's all set for the track and came with about 3 front sprockets and 6-8 rear sprockets. What gearing are you guys running at GBM? I figured I'd run one set up as switching for each track day seems overkill and the track doesn't vary all that much on each layout.

I'll be going out in green the first day or two to get used to GP shift and the additional power/newness of the ride. After that I think i'll be safe in yellow.

Hopefully I can pit with you folks this year as it'd be nice to have some familiar faces around at the track and grab some pointers. Cheers.

It's more of a discovery process that may be track specific and to some degree personal preference. I don't have an R6, so I don't have any background to go on, -1/+2 is general start. Others may have better advice.

I recently watched all the CSBK races from last year. There was some great action! I went to Grand Bend for round 2 last season and am hoping to do the same this year. Anyone else planning on catching any of the races?
It's a possibility I'd say!

Yep, pretty much what I was going to say. I run the same gearing at GBM and Shannonville, but go down a tooth in the rear for Calabogie and Mosport (because of shift points).

My R6 has 15/49. I haven't ridden it yet, but apparently that gearing works great for Shannonville and GBM. However, it would be useless on the bigger tracks...

I'll do some digging with the -1 Front +2 Rear and the 15/49. Not sure what stock is so might be the same set up. Thanks for the base line. Can play this year if things are feeling off. Have a sprocket for almost any gearing.

I did a little 'Googling' and found out the stock gearing for our R6's is 16/48, so I guess that means mine is only -1/+1. That's not as big a change from stock as I though. For some reason I thought stock for mine was 16/45.....
Maybe my gearing would be fine for the bigger tracks after all!

I also found the same info after some googling. I'm going to go 15/50 apparently that is a nice acceleration set up. I think at 15/49 you would be set up pretty well.

Be fun to do a few sessions together with basically the same machine. I'm running Q3+ this season what are you running for tires this year? Did you get your bike set up for GP shift? I'm switching my street bike over to it so it'll be more natural (free to do on 08 GSXR)

I'm all up for a little friendly competition! Didn't get the GP shift done and didn't get a quick shifter either. Only thing I did was get the suspension set up properly for me. I'll run it as it sits for now and see how it feels. But really, it can't be any worse than the last one! Tires that are currently on it are Super Corsa's (?) .... I think. They look fairly new so I'll run them until they're done....unless they feel like ****. When those are done I've got Dunlop GPA's. I'll just mount them on my spare wheels so they're good to go when I need them.

Just came across a thread about a big tire sale at St Onge. Pair of Q3+ for not a bad price. Maybe stock up for the season?....

I have a brand new pair and funds aren't all that plentiful this year so I'll only be running at GBM about 4 Tuesday and 3 Thursday evenings. Should be good with one set, that place is so easy on tires. I did see it but will have to pass at this time. Being in St. Thomas I'd have to have them shipped as well. I didn't pay much more from Pete's for my Q3+'s. Thanks for looking out.

I would like to get a generator and some sticky rubber and warmers in a year or two so I'll see how things go.

Cant you just flip the knuckle or do you need a kit?
On this generation of R6, the shift linkage goes through a small hole in the frame. Only kits I could find were from the US and not worth it in my mind. I have recently heard of people bending the shift linkage to go on the outside of the frame, but I think I want to ride it as-is for now before ******* with it.

Have you ever tried GP shift? Completely worth it in my mind. Of course, kits are usually stupid expensive so.... Next R6?

My setup is the bent linkage style you speak of.

Also I did dig through the sprockets I have and the largest rear is a 49 so that'll be the set up -1/+1

currently has 15/47 which is -1/-1. Not sure what that set up would do. Be stock but spin a little quicker for acceleration I suppose?

The last R6, the orange one, was GP shift. Since I only used it for 2 track days I didn't get a lot of time to get used to it. I think if I can sort out the GP shift for the current one, I'll splurge and do a quick shifter as well. We'll see how I get on with the current set up this season.

Does yours have a quick shifter? I'd be curious to know how it feels with the GP setup....

I don't have a QS. Doubt I'll put any money toward it either at my level. If I race the. I could see doing it possibly.

I'm debating switching to GP shift this season since on the 08+ R6 you just have to flip a linkage. I want to try it our first and see how I like it before I purchase a QS; I need to know if I need a pull or push style.
It's also convenient since 08+ R6 has QS functionality built in to the ECU; it'll be just plug and play on my bike. I found a German company that sells the QS for $160 so will definitely be getting that this year!
