Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

Old R6's are a different story. It's the newer ones that are fire bombs. :p

The newer ones (2008+) are also a significant improvement in nearly every aspect (suspension, brakes, power). The 08+ also received fly-by-wire throttle. I can attest to the performance of the bikes; with a ~100$ midpipe and an afternoon of work you have a full exhaust system. Add another 80$ and you can flash the Yamaha YEC race tune (Ie. change throttle mapping, replace spedo with thermometer, advance/retard ignition timing, change radiator threshold, remove rider safety limits etc etc.)

Of all the bikes out there, the R6 is probably the easiest to get race-ready from a performance/financial perspective. There's a good reason the engine hasn't changed much since 2006 and the "all new" R6 has the same engine. It consistently beat out other bikes in the 2006-2012 era and is still extremely competitive now.

Oh I dunno... Ninja's, CBR's and Gixxer's seem to be pretty easy to jump on and race.

Beat me to it, Dave. Guess we should have clarified that.
Basically, any R6 with fuel injection are the ones that don't crash very well.

Scott's old carb'd R6 crashed pretty well - busted up rear set, clip on and a rad hose went kablooey. That's about it - all fairly standard for low-side crashes.

I can attest to the performance of the bikes....
And what other bikes with same approximate mod list have you ridden to give a comparison with (and not just in your back road high speed blasts everywhere - I mean real riding on the track)?

The GSX-r600 is, at this moment, according to the Suzuki and Yamaha Canada websites $2700 cheaper MSRP.
When you look at ECU flashes, power commanders, shocks etc etc, the cost is pretty much the same for all Japanese sport bikes. So, I have no clue what oriface you're pulling the performance/financial aspect from.

Face it, you're an R6 fanboy, just like I'm a fanboy of V2's and V4's. We all have our preferences, but can't be blind or refuse to acknowledge other options.
Are BMW i4's super fast and awesome? Yup. Can it kick my bike's butt? Yup. Would I buy one over a V2 or V4? completely unlikely.

Hehe, that's very true, I am indeed a hardcore Yamaha fanboy. With the R6 however, you save the ~$500 by not needing a power commander; all the tuning can be done through the ECU itself. I just like the powerband and feel of the R6 more than that of the gsxr600, cbr or the triumph 675.

My advice for Katatonic would be to try riding each bike and see which he likes best. He is welcome to try my R6 :D

alright, so who else is going on the 8th?

You can do the same with Suzuki. Try again. LOL

Again, have you ever bothered to look on the internet? Just about everything can be ECU flashed for the same price. So we're back to a $2700 difference again.

So, you like the power band of the R6, which is exceptionally peaky. Again, have you tried the D675 or the other bikes you mentioned, other than blasting down straight back roads at the usual ridiculous pace?

As for advice to Kat - agreed. If he can actually get a ride on any of the bikes he's interested in, it would be good to try. BUT, he also says that he's only doing it to be a casual track day guy, so full track weapon probably isn't what he needs.

I'm not as nice as Sebi. I won't be offering up my ZX6R for test rides. Unlike the R6 it has power at any RPM and isn't for pleasure cruises.

Not from what I've seen.... Ya left the door wide open for that one

Yeah that motor is something else on that ZX-6, so smooth, and all "stock" I'm sure

Ooh, them's fightin' words. haha... Here's hoping for Screaming Alien on the 29th! LOL

Smooth thanks to Scott Miller. Maybe one day I will tear it down and see if there's anything special inside.

Well the R6 flash is 80$. I don't think the other bikes are anywhere near that! I have tried the bikes I listed, otherwise how would I be able to say I enjoy the R6 the most? Maybe an SV650 would be ideal for a casual track day?

Hehe, that's why the R6 is so fun! The YEC tune along with the snorkel removal made a big difference. You'll have to try it out on the 29th. It's quite different than a stock R6

It's so much fun because it doesn't have power at any RPM? Sounds like the perfect bike for newbs. LOL... No thanks on the test ride. I can't afford it.

Well sebi, maybe you can enlighten us with your technical and mad riding skillz yo on 29th. With your superior knowledge it shouldnt be hard keeping Dave on his clearly inferior zx6rr behind you. Maybe show us a few lines? :p

Jesus Christ! All the smack talk....makes me want to go on the 29th just to see the show!! Hahahaha!!

That's half the fun of it...
Especially when someone is talking out their posterior region...

No power at any RPM? Hmmm.... We'll see about that :p

I cannot wait to enlighten you people. I will show you mad skillz like you've never seen before. I do recommend against slicks as my superior lines may involve some very minor offroading.

You know it ;)

WOW!

Just had some time to catch up on WSBK and watched round 7. Incredible pace from van der Mark and a jaw dropping crash between Rea and Davies

It seems every time Davies has an aggressive fight for the top spot, he crashes out. I'm downloading Laguna Seca now, hopefully it'll be just as interesting!
