Kickstands in dirt

I always had the impression that HD's didn't need them because their kickstands are more horizonal and seem to have more surface area? Or are these only custom stands?

No that looks correct, sorry they call them jiffy stands in the HD world (not what I said earlier). I guess they have a fair bit of surface coverage. The bike does lean over on that side so there is a fair bit of pressure, and weight on it. I find that lean a bit uncomfortable at times especailly when I need to work on the bike and put it back on the stand it's like the bike is coming at you. I guess other bikes don't really lean over like HD's, maybe that makes them more stable when parked.

Go to the motorcycle show coming up in Jan and one of the insurance companies will be giving these out as freebies.

I grabbed a few last time I went.

If you want to see the VStrom swing by Milton and I will gift one to you.
( I should still have a spare one)

I have a bunch of pucks picked up at shows and rallies. My problem is I'm at the point where I get on and off with the bike on the stand. So if it's stashed on the bike and not in my pocket I'm hooped.

Luckily(???) past experience has proven I can pick up all the bikes I own.

I keep it in a jacket pocket. Drop the puck, roll the stand over the puck and set it down. Bike is secure before you get off. Obviously retrieval is more complicated but unless you are somewhere really soft, the bare stand should be sufficient to hold the bike between the time you retrieve the puck and climb on.

The answer to retrieval is a length of string tied to the puck. For me always putting it back in my pocket is the tricky part.......

@timtune that's what I was going to suggest...I have a long shoelace tied through a small hole on the top of my puck and I drape it over my lever when parked...that way when I get back on all I have to do is stand the bike up and pull on the shoelace to lift the puck back up...works brilliantly

Another option is a motocross triangle stand, if you can find a place to store it:

Useful in the pits or at home, but not helpful or practical for the purpose being discussed here.

As mentioned, buy a side stand enlarger, either from one of the big brand names, SW Motech, Touratech, etc., or AliExpress.

You can also fabricate your own for about two dollars. A scrap of .250" aluminum, tap some holes, and three or four bolts is all you need. Crude, but effective.

Order arrived today. Order was placed on Oct 20th from AliExpress.
I feel like I would wait longer for something to come from across the country and this made it here in 10-11 days from the other side of the world.
