Kickstands in dirt

How do ya'll safely park a bike offroad?
Do you just carry a large flat stone with you at all times?

My kickstand keeps sinking/sliding around and that aint fun on a big bike offroad

I always had a small square piece of metal to place under the stand.

You can always buy a wider / larger attachment to your kickstand and that should do the trick. It’s what I have on mine.

Or find a small rock wherever you are and place on that.

Anything will work that spreads the pressure from a small footprint.

kickstand puck. I got my first from Humber College when I did the course.

I'd say lean it against a tree but your bike is too pretty. I have a honda kickstand puck they handed out at a demo ride decades ago. I use it really often (solves soft asphalt in sun, soft dirt, ground sloped slightly to the left etc).

Hahaha that's when I figured out I need it...when my bike kickstand sunk 2-3" into the soft asphalt.

Was fun pulling it out of there when the asphalt cooled again.

I am curios to know why this is a problem. Maybe I haven't experienced it yet, but I have parked my bike literally everywhere, even on Port Colborne beach in the sand.

Maybe your foot is larger? Your bike is definitely shorter than most so it will have less leverage on the kickstand pad (probably less ground pressure but the bike is heavier than most so I could be wrong).

You talking about the kickstand (jackstand in HD world), but I do have big feet :ROFLMAO: really helps with measuring stuff around the house..
Well the HD faithful seem to have this problem as well, or at least all over it. I've see a lot of posts about carrying a puck, blocks of wood, etc.

These are the common plastic pads:

My friend made something similar from aluminum tread plate, at least 1/8" thick. You might be able to find some at Metal Supermarkets in their scrap bin cheap.

I always had the impression that HD's didn't need them because their kickstands are more horizonal and seem to have more surface area? Or are these only custom stands?

They make "fancy" kickstand pucks buy or you can do one DIY with whatever. I always use an octagon box cover like below:

Why I recommend this solution....

$1.69 each, if you forget to pick it up, NP just buy another one.
Ready to use, no extra DIY.
Strong, made of decent gauge steel, will last the lifetime of the bike more or less.
Galvanized, I have never had a rust problem with one.
Fits perfect in jacket pocket.
Round, no sharp corners in an unscheduled dismount.
Better than carrying something trailerparky like a crushed popcan etc.
If I run across an open octagon box I can cover it....
Again, $1.69 and ready to use off the shelf.

I also use it when parking on asphalt, specially new asphalt on a hot day. Without something like this small bike kickstands can poke through soft asphalt and the bike tip over....this actually happened to me.

I have this on my XR and it works great and looks fine.

You have several free options in lean against tree where possible, look for a rock to set the stand on or the pad. The bike shows are coming up and there is usually a number of places to get a free plastic pad. Mostly touring regions/destinations.

Lean against a tree is great for a dirt bike but his looks so nice. I guess if he had crash bars and/or add a snowboard stomp pad as a sacrificial surface you could eliminate the downside.
