Hey guys, I've recently decided to buy another car (a little bit bigger than what else we have). So, today, after a week of waiting, the dealership told me that they don't have this 2022 model/trim in the colors I want in Ontario.. The Kia site doesn't allow to check 2022 MY cars availability and I was just wondering if this is the case or the dealership just wants me to buy the color they have (it looks bad).. I know that there is a chip shortage and was wondering if we have here anyone who maybe can provide some insights?

I see Hyundai has a pick up/ car in the line up. I think they called it Santa Cruz

Search for the model you are looking for on Trader/Kijiji, alternatively check each dealer’s website. All of the above three are mostly automatically updated from their internal computerized vehicle inventory. If it’s on one of those sites, chances are they actually have it.

The only reason why I'm questioning this dealership is google reviews. Some people said that they basically dragged their purchase for long and in the result, they just went to another dealership and got the car they wanted.. Mind you, there are also good reviews there, so it is not all white and black.

It's actually a very good idea to scout Kijiji! Found one that I want there and contacted the dealer. Let's see if it is a fake ad or not.

Unfortunately, I don't want to wait because I have a small window of opportunity either to change one of my cars or just stay with what I have.. I will need to order and wait for a couple of months then this transaction will be much more difficult for me.. Let's see what this new dealership will reply..

That's actually a very good idea to search individual dealership websites as well! I've checked kia.ca site (and even created a small app to get inventory for all their dealerships) but it is limited to 2021 year at the moment.. even through API calls : (

Checking individual dealership sites now.. damn, I don't like manual work : (

Try another Kia dealer and see if you get the same response??

Buying a new vehicle is hugely emotional. I'd cool the jets down a bit. Calling all those dealers will get you pretty worked up.
I'm lucky because I don't need to get a new car. It would be very nice and help my family but I will be totally ok with what I have now. As a result, it is much less emotional for me. I actually noticed it during negotiations with the current dealership. I think I did way better than all my previous times before just because I was ok to walk out and abandon this whole idea for a year or so..

Should have clarified, if it's on their website, it's probably going to be on Trader/Kijiji as well. Most dealerships will use a service that will automatically push their inventory to everything at once. Will generally update once a day.

No real need to manually check each website unless you want to double check before calling.

I work for a vehicle manufacturer (although NOT Kia).

Don't even think of special ordering a car now. You won't be getting it for several months.

It's not only due to the semiconductor shortage, but also because of TFT screens, foam shortages (for seats), tires, etc...

Bosch overseas factory in Asia had to close down because of a Covid19 outbreak. This factory supplies basic chips to all manufacturers.

Even if they can build your car, it's going to take months to ship from Asia, due to lack of shipping containers, and trying to get into Port.

Also, Canada is not profitable compared to US. So manufacturers are allocating cars to different regions.

If you are seeing vehicles in deal lots, you are not going to get a deal. They are not incentivize too.

My buddy ordered a new Highlander 7 weeks ago. He called his salesman about where his car is and the guy just chuckled and said ‘don’t call us we will call you when it comes in.’

Low chance of getting it in the next few weeks. And when he asked about a factory hitch he was told 6 months for it to come in.
