Keeping my bike secure in an appartment building

There are arguements that theives can steal whatever whenever, and that no time is really safe.


I am surprised no one posted the youtube vid where they pull a SS into a caravan in under 10 seconds and drive off in broad daylight on a regular street.


Only real protection is insurance and a tube of prep H when you try to insure the next one at the same condo.


Couple of dudes i know rented a storage locker or something like that and would keep the bikes there. Yeah they had to drive out to the locker when they wanted to ride, but in the end, you gotta do what you gotta do.
 
Does anyone here use a wheel lock or an actual chain on their bikes wen their out? Or one of them 2 way alarms?
 
I used to have one of the 2 way alarms. Not bad for peace of mind. My biggest complaint is I spend a lot of time downtown , and in dense areas like that they lose reception as soon as you walk around a corner or inside. Haven't decided if I'm getting another one, definitely wouldn't spend more than about $150 for one.

Not going to bother with a disc lock. They don't prevent anyone moving your bike more than locking the steering does.

Chaining it to something seems like a good amount of prevention compared to what it costs.

Bring it into your apartment. I know people who used apartment building storage lockers and someone just cut through the wires and stole the slip on exhaust from his zx6r.
 
best options:

1) BIGGEST chain you can find, and lock it to your car (in front of your car) or to a post/concrete pillar if you have one hear your parking spot

2) get a cover. plain grey works well as it doesn't show what bike is under it. the hyosung one was great in the post earlier.

3) get a disc lock with sound/motion alarm.

again, yes these are deterrents, but statistically these are your best options.
especially when combined. thieves if not sure what bike is under the cover, especially when it's plain grey and a not a SS cover, then approach it to lift the cover. at which point they discover disc lock which starts sounding. also if they haven't yet noticed the thick chain attached, they notice it.

with this combination, you should sleep relatively comfy knowing your bike will be there next morning. ;)
