Kawi Wednesdays!!!

Well, checking in. It's getting to be about that time... Can't wait!

Just finished painting her... last coat went on the tank last night, tossed the headlight assembly, ram air ducting & signals/wiring into the front fairing, installed it back on bike along with rear cowls. Side fairings needed a quick touch-up, so they'll go on tomorrow evening along with the tank.

I took a slightly different route with it though... I guess my years are starting to show, getting sick of paint upkeep... constant care, waxing, worrying over scuffs, swirl marks, etc. So I shot the whole thing with black Rustoleum truck bed liner! Yes! And you know what? It actually turned out REALLY well. It's nowhere near as textured as you would think (unlike Line-X / Herculiner / etc it doesn't have rubber chunks in it), and actually takes on more of a satin finish. It's very stealth-bomber-like.

Nabbed a new front fender from a ZX6/9 as well. Much sexier than the big honkin' stocker. Also completed a coil-on-plug retrofit from a ZX10R. Can't wait to see what sort of improvements are in store. So far it starts easier with less choke, & idles steadier. Supposed to sharpen up throttle response considerably and strengthen the mid-range as well. Cleans up the top of the engine & weighs a tad less too!

Still need new mirrors (been meaning to do this since last season) and am eyeing a pair off a GSXR-1000 with integrated turn signals for added visibility. Just need to fab up some adapter plates once they arrive. Also need a new battery, looking at the Shorai but I'll probably end up with another Motomaster AGM for the time being... Those Shorais are spendy :/

Anyway, I'm babbling. I just had to share with someone though. None of my friends ride and they don't understand my sickness, but I knew you guys would.

Really looking forward to finally meeting & showing her off to you guys :)

So any details in the works on the first meet?? Never came out to a Kawi meet last year, but I'd love to meet some new faces this year. Already burned through a couple tanks of gas, the itch is strong :p.

Black Rustoleum truck bed liner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use that stuff to re-paint my winter wheels!!!!

Haha, well I'm tempted to post the few pics I took following reassembly, but the job isn't totally complete yet. The old dark purple mirrors are mounted to hold the front fairing on, and the pillion handle at the back still needs to be shot with something as well, a color I haven't totally decided on yet. I'm thinking gold to match front calipers, but it's up in the air. I may get it powdercoated black instead (it's cast aluminum).

....ah what the hell, here are a couple crappy cell phone teaser pics. The tank/seat aren't sitting right because I've got a battery that isn't the right size under them for testing, but they'll suffice:

Thanks man :) Just wait 'til you see it in person... The cell phone graininess totally ruins the effect.

Beautiful bike, lovin' the paint job.

Looks great! Stealth!!!!!!

Thanks, that's exactly the look I was going for! :)

Thanks man. She may be older, but she's still got all the right curves as far as I'm concerned...

Gahhhh, come on weather, I wanna riiiiiide!

I'm a fan of the old bike styles anyways. I'd choose a blunt, flat (not sure if these are the right words to describe it, but it's all I can think of atm) style over a sharp style any day.

That's not to say sharp looks back, they look absolutely gorgeous; I just personally prefer blunt.

I agree. I too like the sharp angular looks of the new modern bikes to some extent, but nothing looks quite as sleek to me as the soft flowing lines of the 90's bikes. So sexy.

agreed... bike looks great... awesome job on the paint job

Thankya sir :)

On another note, I just looked at the 14-day trend... looks like crap until the 27th (coincidentally a Wed). Maybe we'll get lucky, but I'm doubting she'll be on the road before April at this point :/

Im looking forward to it, i know how cell phone pics aren't the greatest, my 2013 zx6r is matte white and matte black, and even my cell doesn't show the true matte finish

is it me or is it white out right now......................

Hey Everyone!!

Great job xyphur!!

Can't wait to meet and finally be able to ride with you all. Paper work is being completed this week for me and by next week I'll be a proud owner of a new Ninja 300!!! :D
I was hoping to get some ride time in since I don't have my girls till after Easter but this weather has put a damper on that! :(
Guess I have to keep the snowboard out for now...LOL!!!

I do have one question though and would like to hear your opinions:

What tank bag and size? I got the Ogio Mach 5 backpack as birthday gift but I still would like something with easier access.

Thanks!! :)

it depends what you need it for ... a day ride for extra shirt in the water bottled & your GoPro stuff or an overnight pack, extra clothes . I would suggest going to cycle world superstore on sheppard, they are good at letting me try on the packs on your bike see if I would fit before u buy.. got mine from there

Thanks training_wheels!!

It would be for stuff like my wallet, transponder, glasses, sun glasses, keys, garage opener...etc. Backpack would carry extra clothes and bigger items.
I'll go over to cycle world and check it out.

Thanks again!

I was itching to ride so next best thing was to play with the bike.
I ending up putting on R and G no cut frame slidders on.
And in the process learned how to fix the fairing buzz.
I don't know how well they will hold up, but at least will save me fairing repairs
if I drop the bike.
