K1200S as a used bike?

Looking through classifieds, trying to decide if I should keep the ZX for another year and a K1200S caught my eye. It's a 2005 and has about 60,000kms on it. How would this fare as a used bike? I know they had a bunch of recalls, which is easy enough to check. Does anything start to go on them with that amount of mileage? There were complaints about the fuel injection for the first year as well, I believe, but it seems like that was a complaint for just about every new bike between 2002 and 2008. Anything else?

My buddy has a K1200R. Bike is stupid fast and rides like a dream. If you do work yourself its not an easy bike to work on. The S has all the extra plastic too. He's complained about a few things that he's going to repair but again he's very picky about everything. Your best bet is to check out some of the bike specific forums, there are a few for the K bikes around.

where did you see the ad? just curious.

The ad's been taken down, though I contacted the seller before he did so, going to see it this weekend.

I have K1200S 2008. It's a very good bike, but a bit different from the others. It has Hossak front suspension. I don't want to discuss which suspension is better, but Hossak feels a lot different for sure. I suggest you test ride K first. Some people likes it, some hates it. There is another reason why you must insist on a test ride before buying the bike. The early models had several issues and one of them was a transmission problem. You can't notice it just looking at the bike or riding it slowly around the block. What happens is the 2-nd gear pops out under hard acceleration @ 8,000 - 9,000 RPM. You have to make sure the bike does not have this problem. Otherwise, you'll end up replacing the tranny and the whole clutch, because BMW does not produce an old transmissions anymore and the new one requires an updated clutch basket and hub. The total cost will be ~$5,000 for the parts only!
BTW, don't worry about fueling problems, they are easily fixed by PCIII, although the installation of it is not simple and took me about 5 hours.

I'll look into the 2nd gear thing, that's the type of info I'm looking for. If I get it I wouldn't be installing a PCIII, I would prefer not to muck around with the emissions controls. It's not like the bike needs more power. :P

You're right. The bike has plenty of power! PCIII fixes the stumbling and jerking at low RPM. But if you don't want to go this way, take the bike to a dealer and ask them to install the latest software on it. That should make the bike run a lot smoother.
