just wanted to share - experience today at dealership

I agree the sv650 is a v twin and has less power then the inline fours therefor in my opinion is fine for a beginners bike. I just couldn't see myself in a 250 and the only reason I didn't get a 600ss is the insurance. I just couldn't justify spending 300 to 400 a month on insurance, and the wife wouldn't let me lol

Honestly after riding the GS500F for a while I'm actually telling a few friends who are turning 25 next year to just go ahead and start on a 600.

#1. It weighs lighter than a GS500. You're not going to be QQing when you drop it.
#2. Perfect practice makes perfect.

I'd expand on #2 but too lazy. Long story short, as long as you get to know the bike (especially the throttle) you'll be fine. Personally I'm even a little annoyed at the GS500 on highways, it's great from 0-100, then it gets awfully slow.

However...

Buying a new bike as your first bike is a bad idea, you're gonna drop it first day. I dropped mine day 1, another friend dropped their 250 turning into my house, another friend dropped it when a passenger got on. We all had used bikes =D

I don't agree with this. I've got almost 24000km on my first bike, a brand new Ninja 250R that i bought about this time last year and I haven't dropped it. The only place I've come close to dropping it was a freak wave of nausea when I was parking it at Royal last year. not sure what happened, but I managed to keep it up. Not everyone drops their first bike. A lot of people do, but not everyone.

Stop bragging. I bought mine used and I've dropped it at least 3 times. There's even a 4th in there when my dad stupidly dropped it.

I put some bad joo-joo on those tires I got for you. I'd be careful mounting those! :-P

lol

Guess it's not just me where somebody else dropped my bike. And yeah, it was my father as well.

Did you know that bikes are supposed to be rubber side down and shiny side up? I think they failed to teach you that bit at the riders course. lol

I drop my bike on a weekly basis. In the last 3 weeks I've spent about $600 on parts!
