In the US, lottery and gaming winnings are taxed at a fairly high rate. Federal income tax would apply and, presumably, the winnings would need to be received through one of the participating State lottery commissions, meaning that State income tax would also apply. As far as Canada is concerned this is just income, so Provincial and Federal income taxes would also apply.
Everyone gets a cut.
I know that Canadians who win in Vegas can fill out some paperwork and get the tax refunded.
Perhaps it's the same with big ass lottery winnings???
