When will the jays wake up and fire this useless manager. He couldn't manage before, and this time he was coaching high school baseball when they hire him. He has no idea how to handle pitchers. He always leaves them in too long, again tonight Josh Johnson allows 4 runs in the first, gives up 10 hits in 3 innings before he takes him out, and they are out of the game 7-0. This is a complete embarrassment to our city. Johnson has to be let go, or at the minimum sent to triple A.

gibbons should never have been hired in the first place. the only reasoning was that he was "familiar" with the ball club. they shouldve been looking for his replacement as soon as they announced he was hired. im not saying he is that bad... but considering the talent on the team, you don't have the manager as the weakest link in the dad to day line up.

I'm not a huge Gibbons fan but the reason for keeping Johnson in as long as he did is two fold. One, the Jays want Johnson to figure it out on the mound. The season is lost and they need to know if there is any shot of this guy returning to his old form. The second reason is lately the bullpen has been overused due to bad starting pitching. You can't keep pulling a pitcher in the first and not expect to damage your relievers in the long run. In my opinion Gibbons has done a good job in managing the bullpen (he knows when to go to them) that's why although they suck their one bright spot is the bullpen. The starting pitching staff sucks and they are the reason the Jays are as bad they are right now. You can't blame Gibbons for that. If you want to blame him for something then blame him for the bad defence. They are making to many mental mistakes and focus is something a manager should inspire. That being said there are a lot of new faces on that team give them another year together to gel before you start shipping people out. There is too much talent on that team to give up on them after one season. There is a reason these were predicted by most to make the World Series.

Couldn't agree more!!!! Get rid of the bum, having said that i'm glad AA didn't blow up the team. One more shot with this roster next year !!!!!

if you think Gibby sucks then you obviously have just started being a jays fan and have no idea about the history with Gibby. When he was hired, in his first full season , although the jays didnt come close to winning there division, they did have there best record since winning the world series in '93. Plus that year was one of the toughest years in the Al east. They were pretty much a .500 team with Gibby as manager, he is actually a great manager.
You have to remember these guys are just babysitters. So yes there is skill about leaving this guy in too long or not, but thye have there pitching coaches and other people advising them. Gibby doesnt take **** from the players or umps and puts his heart out there for the team.

Long time jays fan, I even like gibby and was happy when they announced they were re hiring him. But when you put a team like this together and it just isn't happening, the coach needs to go. You cant fire the players, so a coaching change needs to be made. He should have been fired two months ago.

I'm not really sure that coaching is as big an issue as people are saying BUT if I have to rip on a coach it'd be Walker before it'd be Gibby. They were supposed to have devastating starting pitching and they're had one of the worst rotations in the league. I'm not sure what the answer is but it's not running Gibby outta town because he didn't pull Johnson in the first. No manager would or should have. Like mentioned above, the season is all but lost, Johnson has a one year option and needs to turn it around, and the bullpen can't pick up 7 or 8 innings a night.

Also about Johnson, you dont think Anthopolous somewhat is happy Johnson is sucking right now.... Come end of year when Johnson needs a contract, AA can wrap him for for a sweet 3 year deal at like $3 million a season.

Gibbons shows his poor management again. Todd Redmond 3 hits, no runs, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, 5.1 innings, so what does the idiot do, pulls him lmao. I guess if he allowed 6 runs be would of left him in. This explains why he was coaching high school ball. It's time for him to go again.

not really. johnson has pitched well in the past and his name still has a good rep. he'll sign a 1 year 5mill deal somewhere.... pitch well and then sign 3years for 30 mil or something.

can't expect much from redmond to be honest but gibbons has to go. lawrie should be hitting 2nd right now since hes hot... but gibbons wont do it til he cools down.

Doesn't matter what he expects from Redmond, fact is, he was pitching great. Now they are losing. I would understand if he was in trouble but 3 hits, wtf. He's the most useless manager in franchise history.

Baseball is awesome. No greater confrontation in sport than pitcher vs. batter. Just magic.

Boxing , mma, racing, and on and on...

Yeah be a larda$$ pitcher throwing a ball at a roided hitter...swing....then stand around for 5 minutes adjusting your nuts and do it again.....so athletic....5 hours later the game is still dragging on.

Boxing, MMA, racing.... All great sports. But they move very fast. Not as much time to savour the strategy, planning, decision, and execution.
The pace of baseball adds to the drama.

And lard azz or not, it takes incredible skill to hit a sphere moving on an angle at 96mph with a cylindrical bat. Hand-eye coordination, agility, power.
