Joe Rocket Speedmaster 11.0 - looking for opinions

hey there,

went looking for a new leather jacket this weekend and could not find anything good.
I was looking for more of a 'higher' brand jacket for the street.
there is really no budget, but I don't really want to spend more that 750 on a coat.

what i found is:

Dainese
- wanted the Dainese Racing jacket, but for $750, the quality seemed really cheap, is it just me? I wouldn't pay $400 for that jacket. I don't see what the big fuss with Dainese is. More of a show and modeling than anything this brand is in my opinion.

RS- Taichi
- tried on the GMX Motion jacket, extremely well made, good quality leather, the fit was decent, but it just seems like it does not offer much in terms of protection. And the plastic on the shoulders is overkill. I personally don't like the plastic on the shoulders. Just seems cheap and will quickly go out of style. I like the look of the RS Taichi jackets, but that's about it. Seems more of a fashionable jacket than a road jacket

Alpinestars
- tried on the new Alpinesrars GP plus, nice comfortable jacket, but for the asking Canadian price, I don't see how this coat would do anything in a crash. just seems really thin and not very protective.

- also tired on the GP-R perforated, also a nice jacket, but too much perforation for our Canadina riding season. this jacket would only be good during a hot mid-summer day. As i also ride at night, this jacket would leave you feeling cold within minutes. Also, the protection is not really there.

Teknic
- tried on the Violator, fit extremely well, nice quality and features, but the speed hump is just an overkill for the streets. I have a 1 piece for the track so I don't want to look like i'm heading to the track every time i get on the bike. plus, i wear a backpack a lot on the way to the cottage or whatever and the huge hump seems like an inconvenient feature.

Scorpion
- Tried on the Stinger. Felt really nice. The fit was great, the protection was there. Simple and well made jacket. The thing I did not like was the exposed front zipper. So on to the next one I went.

Speed and Strength
- tried on the twist of fate 2.0 leather, this jacket felt extremely comfortable and protective. Made by the joe rocket people. The quality seems top notch. and the armor in the arms and shoulders felt like it could absorb some impact. if it wasn't for the big SS on the chest, this would be my first choice.

So after trying on many jackets and being impressed with the Twist of Fate, I went to look at:

Joe Rocket Speedmaster 11.0
-I currently have a Joe Rocket jacket but wanted a different brand. Anyway, I tried on the Speedmaster 11.0 and it felt extremely well made and protective. Very similar to the Twist of Fate without the big SS, which reminds me of 'Schutzstaffel'... The arm protection seems very well made and designed, comes with knox arm, shoulder and back CE protectors.

So after trying on what seemed like a zillion jackets, i'm down to Joe Rock Speedmaster 11.0. Anyone have this new jacket from Joe Rocket? Any complaints?

wow, this turned out to be a long post, sorry!

thanks for your time and opinions!

I'm a huge fan of my Alpinestars Tech 1-R....super fit and protection. It does have a couple of features that may downgrade it on your checklist.....it's perforated and has a speed hump. I never ride with a backpack, so that's no issue; and when it's cooler, I make sure I have on the UnderArmor and it's fine (I don't ride much below 10C).

I looked at the Joe Rocket jackets when I was shopping last summer....I discovered that the models they sell in the US differ from what's offered here. I wanted the SpeedMaster 5.0, but it wasn't available in Canada....we had the 11.0.

I used to wear all Joe Rocket and after I crashed switched to Alpinestars. Can't really compare because I went from all textile to all leather as well. I have the Tech 1R jacket and think it's great. During the summer the perforations are a welcome thing and in the colder months I wear a warmer shirt underneath. Part of my switch was hearing that the Joe Rocket quality had deteriorated with the new ownership but I think it's changed hands again.

I'd recommend you consider going custom from Velocity. I just got pants from them that are better built than other brand names in the stores, were custom fit and priced very competitively. Just a thought.

I have a Scorpion Stinger and like it a lot. I have it mated to the Velocity pants now. Works well together.

I have a Joe Rocket textile and it's okay but I doubt I'd buy another. I've had troubles with zipper pulls and just not thrilled with some design elements, like the zipper flap.

Good luck.

I'm looking at the same jackets and do like the Speedmaster.

I wear a one piece on the track from joe rocket (11.0) no complaints. I haven't crashed in it at a high speed but the lowside I did was a pretty hard shoulder/elbow impact. The standard armour worked well and none of the stitching came apart.

Josh P, was there a particular reason why you switched or just personal taste?

@ dricked: At the time I felt like the quality had worsened, I used to wear a Joe Rocket Meteor jacket and when I went to replace it with a newer version it didn't feel nearly as protective. When I slid wearing the old jacket it went through a few layers of textile and I wasn't willing to take another chance with something that seemed thinner.

What was wrong with the joe rocket leather jacket compared to the a* leather? Leather will obviously offer more protection so your unless your comparing leather to leather you might as well compare apples to oranges, unless I'm missing somthing.

Nothing wrong wit JR jackets....not saying there are not better jackets, but from my experience with there gear....its been all good! first JR jacket was back in 1992.....in my hooligan days on my RZ350......that jacket saved my skin several times....some Indian dude in scarborough is wearing it.....sold it in 2008...lol anyways fast forward...through a jacket then I went to the sonic 2, then now I bought a blaster 10 jacket as I really think is far better then the 11....anyways have always fitted me good and saved my skin on the streets....

I compared the leather with leather but just felt more comfortable with the A*

Have you thought of Rev'IT? i have their Ignition Jacket (Leather & Textile) and am pleased with it. great for all seasons armor seems a little weak tho. they have a good group of full leather jackets and are reasonably priced. Riders Choice is the only place in GTA i know of that sells Rev'IT Gear.

Cheers,
Geoff

Same im looking at JR speedmaster 11 the one with a hump. Any one has one ? How is it during warmer days ? And quality of the jacket ?
Im debating either that or overlord prime hero from icon
Thanks
