So as to avoid hijacking the thread about trailering a U-Haul any farther than we already have, moving conversation to here.

Daisoman - The axle upgrade is just about due I am thinking. I have looked into people that have done lifts and stuff and it seems like it's not a bad time to just swap everything out. Some people have gone to a Cherokee axle and gearing for better mileage I have read, or I could get something a little more rugged. The wife's Jeep is now 12 years old and she no longer has the personal connection to it that she once had, I feel. The last 2 years (since we had the baby) we have not even put the soft top on it.

When I get down under the thing looking around, stuff looks pretty cheesey and not very durable. I can feel it feeding back through the steering.. I'm sure you guys don't have quite the same type of issues like that as what I am talking about. Your wheels look like they are double the size.

I have replaced the X-Joints (ball joints on a straight axle if you didn't know, not sure if you guys have those) Steering damper, which in the bike world looks soooooooo crappy. It looks like a hydraulic shock tube for the back window.. among other things. I still feel a pop and a creak when going over bumps with the wheel turned a fair amount.

The doors have never been off this Jeep. I am planning on doing that just to cruise around... my 2 year old daughter loves the Jeep, she can see so much better out of it.. plus it was always mysterious to her as we never put the car seat into it until a couple months ago.

Anyway, right now I'm looking at buying a non-cd player deck and slapping an amp behind it, in the dash... gutting the centre console and replacing the sub there, and doing the speakers in the dash and rollbar. What's up with you guys?

Thanks zx600 I will look into the polyfil thingy. We just got this jk a month ago and the wife drives it so not much experience off roading or in the snow. Can't wait to try it tho. Do you guys ever hit the trails? I Googled one in mississauga and tried it quickly. It went up and down hills with out a sweat. I don't really wanna push my luck without recovery kit or another 4x4 to pull me out in case. It's not like I can call caa for a tow.

Zx600 do you have the 2 door or 4 door? How much kms do you get per tank? We're still breaking it in but averaging 400kms. This is with 33" tires and 3.23 gearing. Everything else is stock.

Link to original posts so I have some idea what you're talking about?

Sweet Onion, seems like you're more into maintaining your jeep. We got warranty so it'll be going to the dealer until then. So cant really help you in that sense. I'm just learning some stuff on this but we got the largest tire that Will fit without lifting. On the jk 35" or larger requires a lift or it will start to rub. Tires are not really double the size I think stock is just shy of 32". My wheels look bigger because the wheel it self has a more aggressive offset so it pokes out the fender. Down side is when the road is wet water or mud shoots up and hits all over the side., even in the cabin if the top is off. Weird for off road tires they measure the height of the tire. So doesn't matter if you have 17" or 19" rims they still measure the overall height of the tire.

Okay, cool... I have noticed that when people start talking about tire sizes and it got confusing. I will have to measure mine top to bottom lol :) I just know it's a 215 on a 15" rim. Is there any way to know by? Either way your rims are huge compared to mine :D

In terms of capability, ZX600 is right, these things are frickin' beasts. The only thing I would be scared of is a giant muddy hole, or a rock so huge you don't think you can clear it. There is nothing in terms of up and down terrain and bumpy crap that these things will not handle.

I have gotten mine stuck once. It was on our way home from vacation, in this storm. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/sarnia-drivers-rescued-from-snowed-in-highway-1.895579

I'm sure you remember it... anyway, I knew the Jeep was such a beast I decided to go back roading home... encountered a snow drift so huge that we got beached. A guy pulled us out in his tractor and we got beached again going the other way about 30 seconds later. :( Other than that, when I wake up on a Saturday/Sunday morning and there's 2-3 feet of snow on the ground, the first thing I do is head to Timmies and then go hit all the neighbourhood streets before the plows get to them. Zero fear there...

I want to get it off road more, but have been having trouble finding anywhere to go. I drove backroads home for like 2 hours on dirt a couple weeks back, looking for wooded areas to drive into... found one and explored it on foot, but it only went like 20 meters in. I am totally up for it though, the only thing I would like to do is add a winch for that just in case type of stuff.

unLeet, it was the post about asking if a Uhaul trailer is alright for track days, in the track section.

Also, sorry for not waving at you guys without the inline 6. It's like the Harley of Jeeps, you know.. you guys are on like the Harley Livewire of Jeeps, with your V6's... lol, no seriously though, these Jeep nuts are actually like that I hear.

If you look up a tire size calculator or tire size comparator there are several sites that will do all the calculations for you.

You need the sidewall ratio, though, which you left out.

The calculation is easy to do by hand as well.

Rim Diameter + Width x (Sidewall height / 100) x 2 = total tire height

Nice, that is awesome. That is crap my dad knows, but I would never listen to :) He used to work for goodyear for a bit.

Looks like it's only like a 27.5" tire roughly

I guess the inlines are more raw eh? That's ok I like my power windows locks and nav with Bluetooth lol. Yeah I can see why the older jeeps think the new ones are watered down lol. Now let's see some pictures

Do you guys have lockers or some sort of a LSD? Im pretty sure the JK's come with open diffs.

If you're ever in mississauga we can meet up and I can show u that trail. Can't say it's 100% legal tho. I hear it's crown land so we should be ok.

I think only available in the rubicon. I could be wrong tho. Care to explain the difference with lsd vs locking diffs? Or is just how it sounds

I have a 2 door
I get about 500km out of a full tank so your consumption will be worse than mine been a 4 door and having the 33's, Mine are 31s.
I have a recup kit and if you guys want we can hit some easy trails.

Freaky - Only the Rubicon has true locks, we have LSD but I am yet to need locks and I have been in some shaddy stuff. My next will probably be a Rubicon because of the locks and disconnecting sway bar

I'm so down. Where abouts are these trails? I'm digging that color. Wish I had a soft top :(

Up north, about a couple hrs from TO but there are some easy stuff past HWY 35 by the Harvies, that would probably be the better spot to start.

This weekend I will be riding somewhere (don't know yet where, maybe PA) and next is a race weekend, but in 3 weeks i should be ok.

I don't know these trails that well but if you guys don't mind going and getting lost and exploring I am all up for it
