$%@$#@^% Japanese engineers!

After over three hours, approx 5 fuses, and a few choice words, I have finally installed my new protons. Have they ever heard of the international wiring code of red for positive and black for ground? Seriously, did they really have to wire one side of the bike with blue wire and the other side with orange?

C'mon do they do this on purpose to **** with us??

End of rant!

Are you sure it's the Japanese to blame? I had the same issue with a ceiling fan.
Made in China like everything else.

That's why you check the wiring diagram, instead of making assumptions ;)

Could you imagine an entire wiring harness of just red wires and (a couple of) black wires?

Re: $%@$#@^% Japs!

I'm not suggesting to wire the entire bike with red and black wires, just the front turn signals ;)

LOL at international wiring code. If you got mixed up by wires not being red or black, God help you if you ever work on a german car, a british roadster, or anything made by Ford.

Re: $%@$#@^% Japs!

Well, you could always get a British bike which stereotypically drops parts every couple of miles, or a U.S. bike that stereotypically marks its territory whenever it's parked.

Ever heard of a test light?

Prick

I blew my entire budget on the Protons, with none left for the test light...

There was two positives anyway, turn signal and running lights...that's where the confused lied!! ;)

Re: $%@$#@^% Japs!

Can't remember where I read this but a guy took the fairings off his old Ducati and was astounding that all the wiring was the same colour. Turns out the factory had run out of different coloured wiring, so they just used whatever colour they had left and finished the bike that way...

Re: $%@$#@^% Japs!

I'm second dumb. When I first read and replied to his post, I thought he DID have some sort of issue similar to mine.
Multimeter would have helped him figure it out in a fraction of the time.

You should see the stuff i work on. MRAP Armored Trucks built by BAE Systems in South Africa. Every wire is white.

There was a time when buying a Ducati was like playing the lottery; you ponied-up your cash in hopes of getting something good. Sometimes, like in the case you described, you lost. Other times they'd run out of standard parts and have nothing but the higher spec SP stuff left, so you'd get Ohlins forks or carbon rims.
