Jack Layton

Why do you say that? I hear this a lot but I'm not sure exactly what he's doing that would imply demolition. I'm serious, I'd like to know.

Haven't you seen the news. Hundreds of Millions of dollars need to be found to please our debt. So the conservatives by 2013 will be out of the red apparently, but guess what, you are going to have to pay fees to send your school to public school.... as well you are going to pay a fee to see your doctor for more things. READ: TAXES in the form of fees... crafty conservatives...

Things like that, social services are going to slowly go away. Less people will be able to afford a decent living as corporate overlords will take the savings from less taxes and hand it too CEO's and foreign investors who dont bother spending that money back into Canada. The axing of the middle class has begun.

As well those new fighter jets will be bombing another innocent country soon enough if Harper has his ways, and he will with his majority.

The moderate right and the hard right have been demolishing Canada for decades. Can't completely blame them though.. It's been a global trend. More people are noticing it these days though.

There's a bunch of things, but I guess a simple and obvious one is the dismantling of Statistics Canada by radically curtailing the national census.

I respect Jack's passion and commitment, and I wish him well in his fight. I genuinely hope he's back in the saddle by September.

I do, however, have one major concern that's nagging at the back of my mind. How much did he know about his illness during the election? He was asked a bunch of questions about the state of his health, after having fought prostate cancer and having had a hip replacement. He said he was fine, in fighting trim, and ready to be our new Prime Minister. Now, a few months later, after a large proportion of Liberal voters defected to the NDP at his request, he's no longer fit enough to lead the party? And he clearly isn't confident about being back in September, as they're appointing a new leader.

So now we've got majority Conservatives, a decimated Liberal party, many veteran Liberal MP's out of Parliament, replaced by novice NDP representatives, and likely a rookie MP leading the official opposition. This really isn't a great situation for the governance of Canada at this particular time on the world stage. Frankly, it's a bit of a mess.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that this is all on the up-and-up. But it does nag at the back of my mind. Did he know he was sick during the election, and chose not to say anything? A guy like him has pretty good medical attention. He's had cancer and recent surgery. I'm guessing not many weeks go by in between medical consultations. It bothers me that this seems to come as a surprise to him as well as to us....

I was thinking the same thing. It may have been a situation where they were putting him on different treatments for a few months at a time to "see how things went". It may not have been a definitively bad situation until a few weeks ago. I guess things didn't go that well.

With cancer patients, you'd be surprised how quickly things go from "it's serious but there's still hope" to "things aren't going to end well".

Back on topic.Cancer sucks big time.Saw my doctor this morning and he reminded me that i hadn't finished a test that he wanted me to do.The poop is in the mail!
And no...i'm not trying to be funny.

Too funny.About 20 years ago up in a pub at a skydive place,a really drunk guy looked thru my buddies shaving kit that was sitting beside him and asked him what the tiny bottle of liquid was.My buddy said "don't screw with that,it'll clean ya out in less than 5 minutes". The drunk said baaah, and before my bud could stop him he drank the entire thing and laughed it off.We begged him to get to the john which was in the next building, but he wouldn't go.After less than 5 minutes,he ran screaming outside into a snowbank and **** himself beyond what you could imagine.Poor guy!

Agreed. I know things can happen quick. But it's still a nagging thought that will always bother me. Of course, the question couldn't be politely asked, so I could only bring it up on a motorcycle forum. :)

Lucky I haven't sent in my poop yet then.
