Jack Layton announced he is taking a leave to fight cancer. I saw him on TV and what a difference in the last 2 months. I recently lost a brother to cancer, and he looked like Layton, problem is he passed away within 2 months, doesn't look good for Jack, but I really hope for a miracle, and he pulls through. Good luck Jack

I saw Layton on TV a few hours ago. He looks how my mother-in-law looked before she succumbed to cancer. I wish him all the best and hope he takes some time out to rest and spend time with his family.

i am so terribly saddened by this news. . .seeing the video footage and photos gives me the shivers, as i get flashbacks of my uncle before he passed. my prayers and best wishes go out to him and his family

I'm not pro NDP or Layton but I wouldn't wish any disease on my worst enemy, especially cancer. He didn't mention details other than a new non-prostate cancer but he looked wasted. I hope it was camera angles and lighting.

I don't like the NDP either but I have a lot of respect for that man. I wish him the best in his treatment.

No one rocks a moustache like Jack.

I didn't see him but heard the press conference. He doesn't sound good. Here's hoping to a full recovery.

Thoughts and prayers for Jack Layton. I always thought he was one of the more trust worthy politicians who truly believed in what he preached.

the few politicians one can trust

Your level of trust must differ from mine. I can't trust politicians that lie to police when they're caught naked in massage parlours.

That said, I've seen that gaunt, frail, and confused look enough time in friends to know that it's not going to end well. Hope he's not in too much pain.

I can't wait to see his costume...I hope he has a cape.... Capes are cool

Pat Burns looked far worse before he succumbed. Unfortunately for Jack, prostate cancer is aggressive and factor in his age, his chances don't look good.

Best wishes, Jack! While I'm not a big fan of his party (or any of the big-3), I do have some respect for him.

That and the fact he was living in subsidized housing when he and his wife's combined income was $120k..this was in mid-80's money...and they were both on city council...

He didn't look very good at all in that press conference. It was actually depressing to see. I genuinely hope he pulls through, as he's my favorite political leader at the moment (mustache, yay!) but it doesn't look very likely at this point. :(

I know TV is just a media spin, but the recent show on CBC? where he worked two days in an Hamilton Hospital changed my mind about him ever so slightly.

Now i looked at him as less of a tool than the other two.

Some prostate cancers are very slow moving and he stated his is under control. His fight is with a new non prostate cancer.

Considering the change in his appearance I think he has been aware of the new problem for a bit. The news conference was to let us know.

Don't respect his party or his politics and his past is a little shady on a few fronts.

That being said, I can't help but respect his passion and his desire to do what he feels is the best thing for Canadians. I wish him well.

I'll go along with that. He's certainly motivated and charismatic. As EnglishJ said, maybe the least tool-ish of the three. I hope he manages to get through this.

Wait, you go fully clothed when getting a message?
Hope he gets better. The NDP is the only choice, after watching harper demolish Canada and trying to rebuild it in his privatized corporate overlord image...
