It's about damn time...

I vote for these e-bikes to have at least a limited motorcycle license as they should be following the same rules if they're riding like the rest of the small scooters (but worse cause they're on sidewalks).

What ever happened to bicyclists following rules? It seems that these rules have gone down the drain. I can't remember the last time a bicyclist stopped at a stop sign, red light, or indicate that they're about to ride through 2 lanes to make a left turn through an intersection.

I do all those thinks on my bike. The one big thing I make sure to never do, is to impede or obstruct another's right of way. When you boil it down, that's all that matters.

Problem is, the way everyone looks at e-bikes is "Hey, I can do/ride however I want and I don't have to pay for insurance" so you're bound to get many people doing stupid things.

I'll go out on a limb and figure that some groups of road users (bicycles, e-bikes, etc.) get an easy pass on insurance / licensing, because they _theoretically_ reduce pollution and congestion. It's a way for Ontario to pat them on the back. It would be a good deal if only police went hard on light running, stop-sign running, etc. like they do on us. I see cyclists filtering/splitting to the front at red lights often. We get HTA172 for the very same action (road-side impoundment, license suspension, $5000 max. fine). I don't think police will cruise by when I crawl at 15 km/h on the side-walk in sport leathers on a sport-bike either. Equal penalties, I say!

I hope they can continue doing what they are doing without rules.

Why can they when i cant is a dumb reason to take away something from others.

The GTA has some of the worst bicyclists and these ebike fools are only adding to the problem. I was pulling out of a parking lot today and saw this fat-*** bad-*** riding wearing a chrome half-helmet, t-shirt, shorts, and shades booting down the sidewalk towards me at about 25-30km. I looked over at him, made eye contact, shook my head in disgust and took off.

What country do we live in? Canada's no backwards developing country! Why are we allowing these electric scooters on sidewalks?

ALL cyclists, not just e-bikes, need to pay for some municipal license if they want to ride on public roads. You want your own damn lane, completely futzing up traffic...fine, you pay the city for it. I have to license my dogs, make both the spandex wearing cycle ******* & E-bike loser express riders do the same.

I live down by Bayfront in Hamilton, which is Ground Zero on the E-bike apocalypse here. Just tattoo a big "L" on the foreheads of all numbnuts running around on these things. Let's face it, 99/100 of E-bike "riders" are life long losers & abusers who can't or won't work to afford a real vehicle. So they abuse every loophole they can, because they are professionals at it. It's so bad here that herds of them sniff out every available outlet to get a free charge, to the point where the city has had to install locked covers on every lightpole to keep the free ride E-bikers from charging up their "rides" waiting for the Salvation Army soup kitchen.

Their only saving grace is that they may be a catalyst to finally get some stricter regs & by-laws on idiot cyclists. Oh I cannot wait for the whining & wringing of hands "oh noes...we have to pay for our "free" showers now, whaaaaa!"

+100 on does it look like I give a f***. And being one who enjoys the bounty life offers, isn't it fun to play loser numbnutz in the ritzy area around Campbellville? Just this morning a jogger on Britannia made hand gestures in my direction. Everybody is somebodys' tool. Win-win.

Pay for the part of road you are futzing up, and while you will still be a loser tool atleast then you can claim a right to a small part of it while you bugger it up for every other user.

Sort of like gold Corolla's, only slower. And I didn't think that was possible.
