The question is simply "what are the benefits of cruisers?" i.e. where do they uniquely excel at anything?

If you don't understand cool...I can't help you....lol.
The cruiser is best doin what MOST of us really do...go for a cruise.
There is a speed limit...not alot of roads to carve here at speed.
Unless you partake in track days or break the law...the SS's are redundant...so to speak.
I joke...the cruiser is to me... a part of my motorcycle evolution.
The sporties are for the young mostly due to the racy look and cost is more affordable.
 
Back when we had a big cruiser, it excelled at being able to carry my groceries in the truck, no other bags required. We could lock two helmets in the truck and jackets in the side cases and not look like bikers at a movie.
It had a great radio you could hear clearly.
When it poured rain I could stay reasonably dry behind the windscreen with leg shields.
I had good lighting and was easy for cars to see, being as big as a civic
I could pull a small trailer when camping, with no effort. Loaded.
My tires lasted 25,000k

My mom would get on the back and go for lunch.
Windscreen, luggage, radio... you're describing a touring bike, not a cruiser.
 
I think they feel good and feel they look good (or bad....) on the cruiser.

Probably the same reason women still wear high heels. Not great to walk in, but make the calves look nice.

So what I'm getting is that cruisers are about style, since they don't excel at any particular function. I don't have a problem with that but for all those who say that cruisers offer something special that other bikers don't "get" is pretty conceited. The truth seems to be that people buy cruisers to look good (just like most urban SUV owners), but they want to pretend it's some kind of ethereal experience that can't be obtained from regular bikes.
 
I believe it. The movie Terminator 2 probably sold a lot of them.

In the original Terminator, Arnold rode a CB750. Switched to a Fat Boy in T2 thanks to much larger budget.
 
Cruisers are about "the look" those HD guys go for. If you wanted a good cruising bike... you get a sport touring bike. Good performance and comfortable.

Exactly, except touring and sport-touring bikes are the minivans of the bike world. Nobody wants to be seen with them regardless of how functional they are.

Meh. There's just nothing cool about them. I would call them the Toyota Camry of bikes.
 
Jesus. Just say 'my bike is the best' so we don't have to read between the lines to figure out what you ride and what you prefer. End the bloody thread already.

There's no f'ing merit in arguing which bike is better and why.

I see SS as an awesome bike that can only unleash it's potential on the tack, other than than that I see them as crotch rockets, Timmy's bikes (Tim Horton coffee bikes) or your in the 16-19 age group.

I got guys at my office that only take their Ducati's out when there is no rain on the road or the salt is washed away after spring and quickly put it away before fall. They ride on the week-ends to Timmy's for a coffee...they need to hang with others of who do the same hoping to catch some pu$$y or Di$# which ever they ride or suck. They ride to feel like part of the gang or club. The week-end warrior is the politically correct term. Watch "Wild Hogs" although the bikes are cruisers I think many SS riders fit the spot more correctly.

Not saying that all cruiser riders are true riders with-out any companion or acknowledgement from peers, but there are more cruisers true to the spirit of riding than their are SS riders on the street who give a F#cE$ about the salt hitting their Ducati.

- I ride from March to December every year only putting the bike away for hard snow on the roads of Toronto.

- I don't ride to Timmy for coffee

- I don't go for rides with the boys

- I ride as my only form of transportation

- I can afford an awesome M5 or European car and do have one but still ride the bike more than my bimmer cause the bike is stuck in my soul

- I started riding when I was 14 and would happily give my Bimmer up for the ride any day.

Hey SS are awesome but they don't touch the soul uneless they hit the track and scream their limit- otherwise they are called Timmy bikes, crotch rockets and posers.......and yes when I was 16 I loved the look of it and rode them then I grew up..... SS on the street and Cruisers are what separate the boys from the men.

And note boys- that I've said the SS are awesome on the track no question about it, but I'm sure your not burning the rubber out there on the legal roads as the bike was intended for, that's why cruisers offer a better reasoning to feel the soul when riding with-out hitting over 200 km......

What's with people deciding who is a real rider and who isn't? Such delicate egos, my god!

If a guy only wants to ride to Timmies every other weekend if it's hot out, then more power to him. But if he starts to pretend like he's some hotshot hardcore rider then fine, he's a poser who deserves no respect.

Same goes for cruiser riders. They're a fine choice of bike and anyone who wants one should get one, who cares? But to pretend that cruisers are somehow special or offer an experience can't be explained to people who don't ride cruisers is a crock of poopie. They are built for style, that's it.

Anyone who wants to elevate themselves above others based on their choice of ride, or how they ride, is a poser.
