Is this mileage normal for a GS500F?

Only recorded two tanks on my Ninja 650R, but here they are:

288.6km on 10.91l = 3.78l / 100km or 26kms per litre
272.0km on 10.83l = 3.98l / 100km or 25kms per litre

Seems about right for the GS.

@Renboy; did you change up the gearing (sprockets) on your bike? That would make the speedo off even more. Mine used to be 5-10% off, now its 10-20% off with a +6 rear.

generally 10-15%

By law it has to be under a 10% variance +/- , Once you have changed sprockets though it can be off drastically.

90% of them are off around 8% over, But your odometer has a legal variance of 0.1% I believe.

I didn't change a thing, previous owners, no clue. I don't know about the front, but I do know the rear has a 39 tooth sprocket. What came on these from factory?

16/39 if I remember correctly.
You say you're doing 8k RPM on the highway. Is that keeping with the flow of traffic? Keeping with the flow with my +6 rear I'm doing 8k RPM. Maybe you have a 14t front sprocket on the bike?

Front sprocket is easier to get to and switch out/replace so it'd make sense for someone with a GS to go small front, instead of bigger back.

As a side note: going smaller in the front is the same as going bigger in the back (revving higher) and vice versa.

The last 5 tanks from my '05 DL650, GTA commuting....

21.24 km/L
21.45 km/L
23.38 km/L
21.07 km/L
22.22 km/L

Hasn't changed since when I bought the bike in 2007 many many many km's ago

Just checked, it's 16 in the front.

mine is 15t in the front. it makes a bit of difference on the mileage. the bike revs up quicker.

i highly recomend rejetting to
everyone. i rejetted mine and the bike runs much better. especially if you have an older gs (before 2002)

If you're really doing 8k RPM in 6th gear, that would be over 150km/hr on stock gearing. Unless your bike is revving excessively high for some other reason.

When I'm riding slow I get close to 400kms before I have to switch to reserve. On the highway however, at 8k rpms in 6th I get a little over 300kms before the reserve sputter begins. If you're in the city the whole time you won't get to a high enough speed (hopefully) where aero comes into play and kills fuel consumption. 2006 GS500F.

Out of curiosity, just how far off is our speedometer? There's no way I'm going as fast as that things says I am.

400km before you hit reserve!!! that's crazy. How is that even possible? 2006 GS500F right?

You just said you don't go over 5000 rpm...

Well on Eglinton the speed limit is 60km/h and it changes to 50 just a bit after leslie to 50km/h all the way till you hit keele i guess. 5000rpm on 6th gear gets me 100km/h, its already 40-50 over speed limit. I dont know how that qualifies me as a granny or grandpa.....:confused:

lol dont listen to him and dont be foong 100 across eglinton. its dangerous for you and others and there radar now at the botom of the hill at leslie going westbound

I take a picture everything i fillup. This is what i have after the oil change.

@29132Km filled it up with 18.4 Liter.
@29527km-18.1 Liter=395km=21.46km/L
@29920km-18.6 Liter=393km=21.71km/L
@30316km-18.2 Liter=396km=21.29km/L
@30647km-18.2 Liter=331km=18.18km/L
@31045km-17.9 Liter=398km=21.86km/L
@31411km-18.5 Liter=366km=20.44km/L
@31809km-18.0 Liter=398km=21.51km/L

I commute to work daily using Eglinton east to west, no more then 5000RPM. I asked some 250 Ninja guys and they didnt get this mileage with their 250s. Is something wrong? I asked TED from Rosey toes and he told me your bike is not running lean or you will hear a pops from your exhaust. Any advice?

I ride a cbr125 those numbers are depressing.

I get only 350 km with a 22 tank but without using the reserve, but again my bike is also a 750cc.

If chugging along at low revs all day makes you "not a granny", then I guess we just use different definitions.

I got dinged at that spot 3 years back, havent seen them there forever now, its on east bound now right after leslie, just saw them 2 weeks back. That and another one by Don Mills and Eglinton going east, stops all those in the reserve lane for having less then 3 people.
