Not riding would kill me.
Ditto on all the sound advice. I ride a nice slow shiny cruiser now. But if I ever feel the need - I take a few days off in the summer, and I take one of the FAST courses and go tear up a track somewhere.
For years I am more fixated on going slow....real slow....in a tight space and NOT dropping my bike or putting my feet down.
Some people (mostly guys I find) that are negative about the experience have wives, girlfriends or mothers telling them not to ride. And these guys in turn become haters and tell other people not to ride and enjoy themselves.
Most activities have a certain element of danger but at the same time, you can reduce these factors by listening to the posters on this board.
