Is it worth it? Input please.

Is that full coverage or just enough to get you legal? Try TD, they are fair, but at one point they were making it mandatory to have electronic anti-theft. Don't know if that's the case.

SV650 is not cheaper on insurance for young drivers. I bought a 600 supersport because it is cheaper to insure than an SV650 for a 23 year old.
Statefarm is the only option for young riders and they go by CCs, so a SV650 would have been $50 more per month to insure. Funky quoting system but it work for me :)

LMAO @ $1/cc

I ride an SV650, and when I first got insured with Statefarm, they quoted me $3000/yr on a SS... so I went with an SV, which isn't seen as a SS, and it was $1200 for my first year. 600cc/650cc is seen in the same category AFAIK with statefarm - you begin to get reamed when the bike is a "SuperSport".

To the OP, I can't tell if its worth it for YOU, but I can tell you that it wouldn't be worth it for ME: is that a quote for FULL insurance? why not raise the deductible and/or get liability/theft only? Minimize your health benefits coverage (to the lowest they offer, might be 2 mil), perhaps?

I want an SS really badly, but paying that much (yearly, too! the bike is a one-time cost) for insurance is insanity.

Or the dual sport version VStrom which will be an easier transition and still allow some off road fun with your background.
Handles very well in the twisties and likely cheap insurance.

SV is decent choice as wellif you want to do the sport thing.

Your ego might want that R6 but I have seen some nice SV650's. Learn to ride, buy proper gear, tires etc...
Do some track days, you will be a better rider than most of your peers.

what he said

how old are you? I got quotes for 2500 (zx10) and 2000 (636) if I was 25...24 was 8800 and 6500.

Try D. Timmis. If you're looking for just the basics, i.e. the minimum insurance you need to get on the road, their underwriter (Pembridge I think??) has good rates, for me at least. My base rate for an ST1100 is $540, but I have to allow them the opprotunity to quote on my house and other vehical insurance when due. You may not qualify for this discount.

As far as SS insurance goes TD starts to get "fair" when you hit 30 years of age. Before that they rape you. And as for the argument of SV costing more to insure, it does with StateFarm, so it's simple; insure it with someone else.
