Is it worth dressing up/customizing a 250?

I want to put a new exhaust and remove the license plate mounts on my cbr 250r. But, I keep hearing that everyone upgrades the next year to something more powerful and I'm afraid the money I spend on this bike will go to waste if I upgrade next year. I love my bike even-though it's not as fast as I was hoping. Help.... :S

LOL no one's gonna force you to upgrade. That's your bike. Keep it for as long as you want, and do whatever the hell you want with it.

I don't get the modding sport bikes. If it's for a specific purpose e.g go faster ok.. However an exhaust alone will do nothing

Actually. A 2 bros system will reduce the weight of your bike by 10 pounds. Which is something. Especially on a small displacement bike. Throw in a lithium battery for another 5 pound shaving. Thats 15 pounds right there. That is something.

Sounds like you might be thinking about your next bike already.

Like motorcycles themselves, upgrades to your bike is never an investment, no matter what bike you are putting it on because you will never get your money back in resale. What you should consider is, if it will cost you say, $750 for all the upgrades, and you only want to keep this bike for 1 more season, at a depreciation value of 50%, would you be willing to pay $375 per year to have these upgrades on your bike? If you plan on keeping it for 5 years, is it worth $75 a year?

Basically, how much would you pay per year to have your bike look/sound cooler. For me, there's a reason I haven't installed anything on my bike that wasn't already there when I bought it but, if it makes you happy and you feel it's worth the money, why wouldn't you do it?

Well, I don't expect it will make it noticeably faster but it will at least sound better. I keep getting the "wow your bike is pretty quiet" jibes and it's embarrassing to rev when you sound like a lawnmower. lol

The cool thing about tweaking a smaller bike is every little bit you change can be felt in a big way. Take the snorkel out of a ninja 250 and stick a few washers under the needles and INSTANTLY the bike feels more powerful. Get a lighter exhaust system and the weight savings are reflected in the way the bike accelerates. Tuning smaller bikes is fun in its own way.

Having said that, I think you may be hard-pressed to find decent parts for your bike since it was never officially sold in Canada or the US. You can import stuff from Japan or Australia but your looking at ALOT of $$$$. Unless your a collector or just HAVE to have a 250cc in-line four, get something with more parts readily available or get a bigger bike.

It's the new 2011 cbr 250. Parts are slowly arriving and are available online from US manufacturers.:p

One might argue that frame sliders are a worthwhile investment. There are guides to DIY fender eliminators, you don't have to buy the kit. (And I don't just mean cutting a small part of it like most you see)

Where do you suggest I find these fender eliminator DIY guides? The only issue I have is finding a place for the turn signals.
Thanks

Sry I didn't realize you had a cbr. There are plenty for the ninja, dunno if there is any yet for your bike.

It's not as fast as you were hoping? Do you max out your 250 at 200kmh? How fast do you want it? There's not really a point to get a faster bike unless you're going to the track. But don't worry, I'm guilty as well. Going to get an SS in a couple years.

hell ya its worth it...you may never recoup the costs but who cares...

modding bikes is fun.

You can rip off your exhaust, put the stock back on and sell it seperate.

if you go to kijiji you will notice ninja 250's going for a bout the same price, modded or not.

It's about creativity. If it makes you happier with what you have now, regardless of what it is, then it's worth it.

Personalization.

Your bike dude. No saying you have to upgrade... no saying you cant.... and the same with mods. I personally like the cbr125s. If I ever get one... damn right I'm making her into a little ghetto hoe :)

Having seen the cbr 250 being ridden at a track by someone who knows what they are doing it's a good idea to get an exhaust thats mounted in a different place as the stock one scrapes the ground before the pegs when leaning on that side.

To an extent part of the modding done to bikes is for performance, but a large part is also to perosnalise the bike and make it yours rather than what the manufacturer thinks it should have been. You might want to wait until the end of this year so that the aftermarket parts makers can catch up with the 250. From the people I know who either have one or have ridden one it sounds like a decent all round bike.
