is gopro hero 3 black really worth it?

what sd cards do you find work the best with gopro?

Depends what you want to record (sorry I didn't read the whole thread). But have you checked out the drift HD Ghost? I'm also looking for an action cam and I'm debating between the hero3 and hd ghost and I'm leaning more towards the hd ghost because of form factor, auto looping record and remote activation. The hero3 I'd be leaning towards if I was doing more production style video. Anyhow that's my 2cents

That's the problem with the countour, no f'ing automatic exposure!!? LOL! Gotta connect it to a computer to change it? Who the F thought that up? Hero2 and Drift eat it for breakfast in changing lighting conditions :(
just remember, you are comparing the low end contour to a Drift and a mid end gopro.
i think the +2 does auto exposure, it changed when i went under a bridge... ill have to test it again but i know its got manual adjustments when you plug in as well....ive ever had any focusing or lighting issues, and it did much better at night than i thought.

i think the drift probably is one of the most capable cameras right now, but it lacks the marketing and the mounting options. gopro has gone full bore in their marketing so they can sell less features for more money because its.... a gopro..
there are other smaller, lighter and waterproof video recorders out there that shoot 1080, by name brand companies but they arent marketed as a sports camera..make a plastic shockproof case for them and yer all set... they even have a lcd on them.. i dont know the specs so i wont say they shoot better quality than gopro, but the bat life is better... i just dont get how all these action cameras can leave out basic features that have been on standard digital cams since 1990 and still charge a premium.

It's worth it if you have a 4K TV lying around (I think the cheapest goes for $10-15,000..... the 84" is $25,000)
$699 for cheap 4k TV, works sweet, especially as computer monitor, but at only 30hz :( I use it for my video editing monitor, absolutely amazing. http://www.amazon.com/Seiki-Digital...1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378396375&sr=8-1&keywords=4k

I got that one on sale for $499 which they go occasionally, they have larger versions as well.

does the hero 2 have 30 fps?
I'm not sure what your question is? Every camera is 30fps :) For HD modes the Hero2 does 1080p30 and 720p30 and 720p60

Does that eBay battery box actually work? Seems awfully cheap for the price and capacity. I've paid more for less and still had them be crap.
I don't personally use THAT box because I've had garbage no-name brand (trustfire, ultrafire, WTF to they put fire in their name? lol) batteries catch fire or explode on me before (as recently as two weeks ago :( ), so I prefer to build my own battery box. I use THIS box with two pairs of THESE batteries. Total cost is approx $40. Capacity is a REAL 13,600mah (I highly doubt that other box is 20,000mah considering it has four 18650 batteries in it and the most powerful batteries on earth are those NCR18650B panasonic's I linked up.). Nice thing about this box is it recharges at 2amps (twice as fast as that other box I linked). I recharge it for "free" with a solar panel :)

I use these $30 32gb Class 10 (UHS-I) sd cards and never once had an issue: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=11_1216_175_176&item_id=060570

My friend uses $25 Adata 32gb cards, all microSD with the adapter (in his Hero2's), and in naked microSD form for his Drift Ghost: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=11_1216_175_177&item_id=058666

I have the HD Ghost (that's the "fork" cam in the quad split screen video). Best quality cam I own (I don't own Hero3). The things I like about it over Hero3: It has a rotatable lens (great for creative camera angles), it has a built in screen so you can aim the camera flawlessly and the battery lasts FOREVER.

The only thing I don't like about the Drift Ghost is that it doesn't work properly with my 64gb SD cards (where as my friends Hero 3 works fine) :(

Not sure why everyone always ******* about the mount options on different cameras. For $10 you can convert ANY camera to use GoPro mounts, I don't know how many more times I have to say it. Ghost, Contour, all of them. In the quad view motorcycle video every single one of those cameras is mounted using the "convert to gopro" adapter! ROCK FREAKIN SOLID!

My friend has those, the microphone is insane, can hear conversations on the other side of the parking lot :) The video quality isn't that great with lots of movement (i.e. when wearing the glasses), and either it's got some funky autofocus problem, or it's just plain blurry with lots of motion. Pretty cool cam though.

I was hoping they would be better by now, I guess we'll have to wait for more development. Thanks for the info Chief.
