is anyone experience unusual high usage charges from Rogers?

I called Rogers and complained about the overage fee. I went over once but was getting the 75% emails every month. I also complained about their phone service and cable and compared them and their internet services to other providers. In the end they gave me free unlimited service on internet, upgraded my TV service and knocked the total price down a bit. I could have switched and saved more but then there is the hassle in doing that as well.

On a separate note, I called Rogers to add an additional 1gb of data to my plan, as I started streaming a lot of SoundCloud on the go. The sales person tells me that for $3 more than my current bill, I can get both 1gb extra data + get my 200mins/week to unlimited Canada wide mins.

I went ahead after confirming 18times with that sales person that all my other add-ons wouldnt be lost in the process, because I already had really cheap rates. She said "No, you will have everything you have now + the extras for $3".

Next thing I know on the next bill, I get charged over $20 for international text msgs, and lost Visual Voicemail, and been charged $10 for "Unlimited Long Distance", which is already a service, part of the deal...

Turns out, I got all my add-ons removed, and no matter how much I complained and tried to take things back, they wouldn't. So, adios Rogers for me.

I'd check if all is correct if I were you, OP.

Your situation appears to be the norm anytime you change things, they tell you you're getting this and that and that it won't affect anything else, next thing you know you get a bill and it's all screwed up, this has happened to me multiple times.

And whats everyone's average time on the phone with Roger's when you have to deal them? It's 45mins to an hour for me every single time. Sick of it.

I'd say that's about right. I called them three times, they couldn't fix the billing error so they kept saying they'd call me back. THREE TIMES, no call back. This was over two months. Because of their screw up the bill was now over $500! I called to cancel, told em to go F themselves they can take me to collections if they want, magically I get some master manager with three clicks "fixed the billing error, credited you the mount, everything good" like WTF!

All the agents before that guy said "just pay the $500 and we'll credit you back over the next few months" um, lol? No thanks.

This happened to me a while back.
I was away for 3 weeks. I got the bill and when I called it showed a spike in usage during the time I was away.
Mind you my stuff is secure but I should have unplugged the modem.

I wonder if Rogers is just tacking on some extra charges and those diligent enough call and complain and the rest just pays up.
They can always fall back and say it was a billing error or bug in the system or some other excuse. They collect $1million and if you complain or they get caught, Rogers pays back $500k...lol

So, all of a sudden last month my data usage on my phone more than doubled historically...

Just to confirm, this is on your phone?

All this "change ISP" advice isn't going to help with your phone, unless you mean that it was your phone running on your home's network :p

Assuming you're referring to your phone on it's own network - what kind of phone is it? There was a recent issue with Android phones and over-the-air updates. I know of 3 cases among friends of mine who's phones would repeatedly download the updates and never actually report it was completed, or install it. They all blew well over their data caps in a week.

Did you finish reading his post? He goes on to state that his home Internet has gone over the limit as well. Hence the ISP recommendations.
Speaking of which I just switched to Teksavvy cable from their DSL and woot! 10x the speed for same price (DSL lite only plus dry loop was only high speed option Teksavvy had in my area)
