is anyone experience unusual high usage charges from Rogers?

So, all of a sudden last month my data usage on my phone more than doubled historically I use less than half, although I haven't changed anything on my phone or the way I use it. This resulted in a $50 overage charge on my already $100+ bill. Now my home internet is at nearly 100% usage in 2 weeks where historically I use only half. on Saturday they claimed I used 40 gb of data or the equivalent of watching 20 movies- I was at work the entire day on a double- and I do not download music or movies. I was just wondering if anyone else was getting these phantom charges. I call them Phantom because as the Rogers rep said they cant prove or disprove that I did or did not use this data and neither can I... Not sure what to do except switch providers. but to the original question....Is or has anyone else experienced this?

Is your network secure?

One of the most important things. If you have a router and you do not set a password to it then anyone nearby will just connect to it and use up your bandwidth. Also if you've been with rogers for many years, give them a call and complain saying their service sucks and want better internet and lower cost, i did that 2 times now and my internet is $55/month after taxes and its ACTUALLY unlimited not some BS lie where they say unlimited but its capped at 90 or 180gigs. The only downside to the unlimited is my DL speed is now 25-30 when it was around 45-50 and 180gigs a month.

Did you recently get Netflix ;)

Netflix is garbage, costs money and its terrible quality plus the files are all terribly coded where each video EATS your bandwidth while streaming

pirate bay + Utorrent all the way.

I do pirate bay for myself but the wife loves the stupid American reality TV you cant find in torrents and it keeps her quiet :D

Since June, I've been way over my home 150gb & cell 1gb limits. Cell data I can justify, but not my home data use, also around 180gb. My network is secure & I'm at a loss as to why, since June, I've been way over. I wonder how much data my net boxes use. Does anyone know if Minecraft or Skype use a lot of data? My son is a Minecraft/skype junky.

Everything is password protected and encrypted. I have had Netflix since it came out. I did complain, even said I was going to cancel as soon as I somehow hit my limit, which I am Bell is much cheaper. Thing is I had the rep go through 3 years of records and even this month and its almost exactly the same each month except for these certain 6 days in total, where I was not home or I was at work.

Rogers have been having tons of issues lately with their infrastructure and upgrading, its been wreaking havoc.

I'd check out http://www.dslreports.com/forum/canbroadband and check out Rogers sub forum.

Call them up and ***** then drop the word Teksavvy or Start and watch them get sweet and cuddly with you.

FYI, you can add unlimited bandwidth for $10/mo with Rogers. After going over by like $80/mo every month I called to complain and the rep asked for my cell phone number (I'm with Wind), I gave it to him and he sent me a text that said "Ask me for the $10 unlimited option, and tell me you'll cancel your service if I don't back date it". lol!!! I did that, got a $218 bill credit and unlimited bandwidth for $10/mo from that point forward! WOOT :D

+1 on Teksavvy, love em :)

I switched after Bell screwed me over. Search for my thread. Basically..... even when I unplugged my routher from the power and hard line, my usage was still going up. For 3 straight days I did this, documented my usage on a 5-hour basis. I put everything together for Bell and it sounded like they were opening a case...... 3 weeks later, "No explanation, you're still responsible for your bill. Case closed".

I had three of their phone techs confirm when the last log-in day was and that my usage still spiked without any hard line or power.

i've noticed that my Rogers Wireless has been going over every month! I don't go on Youtube or stream anything that would take up bandwidth. Half of the time, i'm on my wifi network at home but yet I manage to go over my 2gig limit! Wtf?? All Rogers can suggest is turning off my apps which could possibly be running in the background (which I do btw). I never had this problem when it was 500 megs...but when I upped my limit months back, I started going over. I'm actually tired of Rogers..I might switch to someone else...which i've done for my internet alread.

So weird because this is around the same time last year that I was going over my usage (120GBs/month!) It started in July and we called it quits in January.

I love Teksavvy.

did you switch to a new phone recently? I can manage to hit my 6 gig limit easily now that I'm on LTE just listening to songza

I had something similar on my cell phone. There was a glitch with gmail syncing. It was like it was on an unlimited sync loop. It never stopped so I was racking up a 100mgs a day. Whereas previouslu I would only use about 15mgs.
It took forever to figure it out. I had to set the sync to manual only to prevent it from happening.
If you Google it, you read about many similar cases.

I called Rogers and complained about the overage fee. I went over once but was getting the 75% emails every month. I also complained about their phone service and cable and compared them and their internet services to other providers. In the end they gave me free unlimited service on internet, upgraded my TV service and knocked the total price down a bit. I could have switched and saved more but then there is the hassle in doing that as well.
